Life
Hello to all of my classmates from West Grand Elementary, Franklin Middle School and SHS.
I'm a special education teacher for District 186. I spent eight years at Washington M.S., then transferred to Butler Elementary in 96. I've been there ever since. I teach children w/ cognitive disabilities, learning disabilities, autism and speech/language disabilities who are in grades Kindergarten through 2nd.
I recently remarried in Oct. 2007. I'm starting a new chapter in life as a step-dad.
College
I went to LLCC following high school, but didn't do very well. At SHS, I was pretty good at writing the forged note from mom to get out of class (I had a lot of doctor's appointments!), so when I went to LLCC I was like, "You mean no one is making sure I go to class?". aying cards. I ended up dropping out after a year.
I worked full time in the cafeteria at Memorial Hospital for a year and realized that I didn't want to do that the rest of my life, so it was back to school. I returned to LLCC from 83-85, then went to ISU from 85-87. Though I didn't know it when I enrolled at ISU, I was in the teacher education program for special ed. I seriously thought I was going to be working with people in the residential setting, not teaching kids in a public school! It must be fate because I love teaching the little ones. :)
I went back to get a Master's in 2002 from UIS. When I started teaching, everyone was all about getting the administrative degree. That's not my scene. So, it wasn't until fifteen years after I started teaching that I decided to get my Master's in Educational Technology.
