David's Story

Greetings, Short story 1968-2020. After my sophomore year my father was offered a fantastic job in Lubbock . Unfortunate for me at the time. West Texas was very different. No trees, hills, lakes or Wildcats. And I missed them all in many ways. The great news is I met the love of my life in 1969 and we have been happily married for 48 amazing years. Her name is Janice, A wonderful woman with beautiful blonde hair and sparkling blue eyes. We have one son, Derek. He also fell in love with his high school sweetheart during his junior year in high school. They married after their graduation from the University of Houston. Sara, his wonderful wife has blessed us with 3 grandsons (20-18-16 years). I served 4 years in the United States Air Force (72-76). Possibly the most important time span in my life. I thank the Air Force and Master Sergeant Loinel Ellis for his wisdom, knowledge and leadership. I was trained to be an operating room technician. I scrubbed all types of surgery but I enjoyed orthopedic trauma the most. After my discharge we moved back to Lubbock where I was employed by an orthopedic surgeon. He expanded my knowledge greatly and took my understanding to a new level. I am so grate...Expand for more
ful for to him for the time he spent educating me. Two years passed and I was given an opportunity to a dream job. I accepted a job selling orthopedic trauma implants. A rewarding and wonderful career helping healthcare professional provide for their patients. A bit of a fast forward several years. We retired in 2016 and not long after boredom started being part of my days. Retirement is more than awesome but idle time is not. We had discussed buying a place in the country with our son. In 2017 we bought a farm with our son. We raise angus/wagyu cattle. I have never had so much fun and enjoyment. Our farm is located outside of Grapeland, Texas a few miles from the Davy Crockett National Forest. I am attending your 50th reunion this October. I am really excited to see all of you. I have not been "home" in quite sometime. I understand downtown has been preserved and is very nice. It will be awesome to see. I would like to see if any of you ladies or gents would be interested in a round of golf. I think it would be fun and an enjoyable way to reconnect. Please let me know if you would be interested and we could plan some time to play. Wishing you a wonderful day! Warmest Regards, David Laws
