David's Story

Life Well, with two tours in Iraq now safely put away under my belt, and only a threat of a looming third, life is somewhat back to normal. In 1995 moved to the Denver Area. In 1998 got hired as a firefighter paramedic with West Metro Fire rescue. I work at Station 3 as a technical rescue technician on Tower 3. So much for four and a half years to earn the Mechanical Engineering degree...my parents are so proud... I love my job. I can't believe they pay me to what I do. And you can't put a price on quality of life. In 2003, got called up and was deployed to OPERATION Iraqi Freedom with 10th Special Forces (AIRBORNE). Funny, in 2004 the same thing happened. I hope this is the last. I promoted to Major and left Special Forces for command of an AIRBORNE company in San Diego. I want to thank you for your tax dollars that make my commutes from Denver to southern California possible! Got married in 2004. Annie and I had a brand new baby boy, Dalton Pierce, that I got met briefly before last tour and we have been joined by another little guy, Donovan Chaynce,...Expand for more
who is a little over one. That brings us to two girls and two boys (Devlynn and Kylie). Couldn't be happier. Ok, I could be rich, but I'm not likely to do that as a fireman. We make our home in a small town named Firestone that is a bit north of Denver now, but we could get a much larger home for much less money than we were spending before, and it puts us closer to Annie's parents should I be deployed a third time. Back home, when I get to be a fireman, I do the Army Reserve thing, and I got credentialed through Colorado State University as an adjunct professor, so I teach fire science, HAZMAT, and emergency medicine part time as well. I have chipped 12 hours off of my masters degree, but as a commander of an Airborne Company, and 4 kids, the free time is nil. I just found out Scott Rhein has accepted a military assignment in Colorado Springs, last I checked Chester Bell lives in Castle Rock (though I have yet to meet him since he moved to Colorado), and Steve Mueller and I are best friends still to this day. I look forward to seeing you at the 20 year!
