David's Story

Wanted to be a "Cool Cat" type of kid, but in reality, I was a shy and reserved boy. I was in the first class of graduates who left Western Jr. High School to attend Anaheim high School. My first year at AUHS was great...! All the girls and all the extra after school stuff...WOW I was in heaven...! Soon I developed a heart throb from within my class. But I was so shy and afraid of rejection that I never made a move. She, Jane Charmichal, was (I believe) not even aware of me. (but I was wrong I found out later) As the second year approached my situation at home began to change. At 17, I was able to buy my first car: a 1950 Chev coupe. I loved that car, and I kept it for several years. So I left AUHS, and began to work full time at Douglas Aircraft Co in Long Beach, and was assigned to work swing shift, in the photo department. All was well with my job, yet, I wanted to complete my schooling. So in 1960 I enrolled into Adult night school at AUHS. Long story short, completed Adult night school, graduated, then enrolled into Fullerton Jr. College. While at FJC I began to enjoy basic civil drafting, and so too, did my interest begin to expand...I developed an interest in Civil Engineering. Completed JC with an AA Degree, and moved to the San Francisco area, where I enrolled into San Francisco State University. I was in need of a job while attending SFSU, so I married my girlfriend, the 1957 AUHS Valavictorian: Elizabeth Ann Ebert. We soon had a son: David, and I dropped out of college. For many years I worked at different jobs, all the while, with an eye t...Expand for more
o continue and finish my education. But, Eiizabeth and I divorced after 15 years, and I moved back to the San Francisco area. Soon I was hired again, but only this time I was hired by an Engineering company, working with the US Navy. The 'Hippie' era was in full swing, and I wanted no part of that. So after my mother passed I left S.F and moved back to the OC area. Yet, I never forgot about Jane and often thought of her, somehow thinking and wishing to +meet her again...that hope never left me. I decited to venture out and start my own engineering business, with some help of some friends, we started a small business. The business grew very quickly, and soon we were 'rolling in the hay' with new work orders. But with not much experience in business, IRS shut us down after three years of a profitable business. Lost my house, my boat, the cabin and much more...but I did gain a great lesson in business management. I enrolled into the University of Phoenix studying Business Management. I earned a B.S Degree in Management. Much like how my life has faced different changes, I changed my proffession and decited to become a teacher. Continuing with studies at UOP I finally attained a Teaching Crediential. Again a long story short...I've been teaching high school via the Orange County Department of Education for the past 18 years. Retire..? Nope. Not yet; but almost. My goal and "bucket list" of things to do when I do retire, is to travel and see the places I have been teaching about. But I need to find that special first. - Jane are you out there..?
