David's Story
The best years of my childhood was living at Ft. Knox. I met so many people and made so many friends.I attended school from the fifth through my Sophmore year.My dad got orders to Korea and I had to attend North Hardin High for my Junior year. My dad returneds and I was back to finish my high school years at FKHS. I hung around for about nine months after graduation. The war in Vietnam was starting to get real bad. Harold Irwin and I decided that we should join the Navy. So in March of 1965, we enlisted in the Navy caught a Destroyer out of Hawaii, and I went to Assault Boat school at Little Creek Amphibious Base Norfolk Virginia. After scool, I was assighne to The Tank Landing Ship USS Grant Count LST 1174. I spent two years aboard the ship making cruises to the Meditterian and the Caribbean. Received orders to shore duty to serve with Force Supply Office with Comphiblant Staff. This was under the Command of Admiral John McCain Sr.

work in the retail business with Sears Roebuck and Co. I married in the same year. We had three children Twins Kim and Kelly and a son Carl. Carl was named after Carl Mays a forme FKHS alumni who died in 1966. I worked for Sears until 1982 when a reduction in force caused me to lose my job. I then went to work at the Naval ASir Staion in Virginia Beach as a civil servant for the next 25 years when I retired. After I retired, I decided to go back to work with a government contractor. I was the Site supervisor for 119 employees for three companies at the Naval shipyard logistics department. I left there in June on 2010 and went back into retirment. I am now married to my wife Karen whom a lot of FKHS alumni have met Between the two we have five childrfen and eight wonderful grand children. Karen works for the Department of Homelanf Security with the US Coast Guard in Norfolk asd a Contract Specialist. I do voulenteer work with the Heart Center at Virginia Beach Hospital.
