David's Story
After graduating from high school I joined the Navy Seabees doing tours in Adak Alaska, Vietnam, and Bermuda. Afterwards I returned to Boaz and attended Snead graduating in 1973. I went to Auburn University until landing a job in West Alabama as a driller and blaster in a coal mine. I transferred to and graduated from the University of Alabama.
I lived in Gadsden Alabama, Dallas Texas, Atlanta Georgia and Beaufort South Carolina before moving to Cocoa Beach Florida in 1980 where I was the project manager for the construction of launch pad 39B for the space shuttle. I met and married my wife Gerry that year.
After completing the construction project I went to work for Lockhee...Expand for more
d as the pad B field engineer. Lockheed selected me for their management program and I was given the opportunity to go to Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach Florida for my masters.
I remained with Lockheed 18 years on the shuttle program leaving in 2004. I am currently with CH2MHill headquartered in Denver, Colorado.
Three of my four children graduated from college and the youngest is a senior at University of Central Florida. My oldest son is a fourth year med student at the University of South Florida.
I have three grandchildren with one on the way. I plan on retiring next year doing some work as a consultant, enjoying my family, traveling some and fishing.
