Life I recently visited China with a group of social workers. I particularly enjoyed a visit with a family in the ancient part of the city of Beijing. Our social work group had an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with Chinese social workers, psychologists and physicians. The class system was polarized between wealth and poverty, with the majority living in substandard housing and income levels. Spirituality is present, but only through a marginalized population. Only 10% of the Chinese practice any religion, and the majority of those practice Buddahism. Several of our group met in a Christian church, while others of us attended a Taoist temple. I felt God's presence at the temple, and felt a spiritual reverence for the worshippers there. I would like to see more opportunities to exchange ideas with the Chinese.
