David's Story
Life
I was born in Throckmorton, TX to O.C. and Louella Nash. We moved away at age 2 when dad took a job with Shell Oil Co., which he held for over 35 years. Moved around the midwest a lot until I was in the 5th grade, and moved to Elk City, OK. Finished H.S. there and went off to Oklahoma State University for 3 years and ultimately ended college career at Panhandle State University, Goodwell, OK. Met my wife, Robin, there and began my working career with Retail Credit Co., which is now known as Equifax. We moved around quite a lot with them, living in Guymon, Woodward, Enid, and then on to Dallas and Houston, TX. Had 3 children along the way and in 1985 had an opportunity to move to Lubbock, TX, which we jumped on, as did not like Houston, even after 17 years there.
Retired 1/2000 and hit the road in our motorhome, and have been on the road ever since and loving each and every minute. We have been coast to coast twice now and have been from Mexico to Canadian border as well. Only 8 states in the far northeastern US which we have not visited.
School
Schooling began in 1946 in Sonora, TX and moved on to Gainesville, TX, Greeley, CO, Benkelman, NE, Colby, KS, and finally to Elk City, OK, where I graduated in 1958. My high school years were the greatest time of my life, as I was quite active in sports, school activities, and my church. Had a large circle of friends and just had a ball. Participated in football, basketball, and ...Expand for more
track as well as drama and my church.
College
Attended Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK from 1958 thru 1961, when I transferred to Panhandle State University, Goodwell, OK. Was a Marketing major at OSU, but changed to Education and History at PSU. Was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity at OSU and loved participating in intramural sports of football, basketball, track, and softball. Was selected to the All Club and Dorm football team and was campus free throw champ.
Workplace
Began my work career as an investigator with Retail Credit Company in Guymon, OK. Was promoted and moved to Woodward, OK in 1964, and on to Enid in 1966. Big promotion came in 1968, when we moved to Dallas and while there was selected to go into sales management in the Houston office. Served some 12 years with this company and finally left in 1975 to take a position with a very large auto dealer as Finance - Insurance manager. Stayed with them for 7 years and moved on to a suburban dealer for 5 years.
The opportunity arose for me to take a position with an insurance company and move to Lubbock. We arrived there in 11/1985 with Allied Bankers Life Insurance Co. They, like so many at that time, failed in 1987 and I went with Transport Life Insurance Co., which was subsequently acquired by American Bankers Life Insurance Co. in 1990. I was a sales rep with them in their credit insurance division until retirement in 1/2000. Loved my job there.
