David's Story
As a 1956 graduate of OHS I remember some of my teachers very well--including Thelma Draper ---Journalism who first got me interested in writing to which I devoted almost all my life. Mrs Billings --- English and dramatic arts- who got me interested in dramatics including technical theater which led to my being a long-time writer/producer in the advertising and television industry.
I worked with ABC and CBS television Networks most of my life. I was most recently involved with HSN (Home Shopping Network) where I was writer and producer responsible for upscale products and many of the celebrities who frequently came to the Network.
Medical problems (a stroke) forced me to retire early in my career. I then devoted my time to fiction writing. So far I've produced three novels and one picture book. To insure privacy I use a pseudonym --- Jon David Douglas as a pen name for my writing. Most of my books. Cody, A Boy's Odyssey, A Place Out of Time, Deadly High School are available at Internet bookstores (Amazon.com) as is my successful photo book, The American Boy.
After leaving OHS I graduated from the University of Iowa and spent much of my life living in Albany, Syracuse and New York City. When I was employed by HSN I moved to the Tampa Bay area of Florid...Expand for more
a. I now live in a retirement community (The Villages) in central Florida north of Orlando.
I have a vast collection of pop music from the 50s,60, and 70s. which I frequently play on a reproduction juke box. I also enjoy museums and concerts. In the classics I enjoy Gershwin, Ravel and Debussy. I love musical theater and am a fan of Cole Porter and Richard Rogers. I'm fond of mid-western modern artists as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton. I also admire Norman Rockwell and Maxfield Parish. I like photography and particularly enjoy photo studies of New York City.
I particularly enjoy amateur high school and college sports especially those stressing individual achievement particularly wrestling, gymnastics and swimming.
I'm very concerned for children who are abandoned, mistreated or neglected. While working in the Tampa Bay area I was a volunteer with an agency, a clearing house for lost children.
On the adult level I'm concerned with the plight of Tibet and our own Civil Liberties which I feel have been severely eroded in the past few years.
I think my upbringing in the mid-west was wonderful. I still have contact with many friends I met during elementary school, high school and college. I value them very much.
