David's Story
Life
I ended up Graduating early in the summer of 68 instead of going through to June of 69. Joined the Army in 1969 after one year at Bakersfield Junior College and ended up serving over 30 years before retiring as a Colonel in Military Intelligence in 2000 while serving at the National Security Agency. During those 30 years I moved 25 times, (the family moved 15) and lived in Germany, Korea and 8 different states. Along the way I got a BS in Sociology from the Univ. of New York and a Masters in Management from USC. I also graduated from the Air Force's Air Command and Staff College and the US Army War College which, along with my intelligence background, gives me a unique, although not necessarily positive view of our place in world events of late.
Since 2000 I've been running a non-profit organization, Bay Area Food Bank, in Mobile, Al distributing donated food to churhes and non-...Expand for more
profits in 24 counties along the Central Gulf Coast as part of the Feeding America network of Food Banks. My wife, Monika, and I have a daughter, Liza (35) who finished her PHD at Columbia Univ. in 2008 and now works in research in Washington D.C. and lives with her husband who is an Architect working on his MBA. Our son, David (33) lives in Mobile and works in air conditioning. He has a son 11 in the St. Louis area and a son 3 living with him on 5 acres outside of town.
My younger brothers Pat and Wade still live in Bakersfield while brother Dan (South 66-70) lives in Tucson, Donna (South 64-68) lives in Clovis and my brother Doug (South 63-67) lives on a sailboat out of Miami. Step-brother Rick Ashabraner (South 67-71) lives in Gig Harbor, WA. and sister Jamie Ashbraner (South 68-72) lives in Reno.
While I always enjoy trips back to California, I don't make it as often as I'd like.
