David's Story

It was a horribly embarrassing time, failing tenth grade amongst my peers, due to my unstable home life. Then Viet Nam played with my head. Drank, of course, and loved my pot and needles while riding with a bike club. Thank Christ He saved my soul!! Yea, that's right, I'm a Christian. Have played fiddle & mandolin in Europe and recorded bluegrass albums. Three beautifully unselfish kids, a fantastic wife!, and a music ministry. My life has purpose and I've got joy--how about you? Give me a call; I'm in the book, I'll tell you all about Him. Oh yea, life is good, ain't it? My sons and daughter are my heroes--they stand up for Christ; something I never had the chance or guts to do when I was there age! The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Principal Parks of Central Jr., because I never appreciated how much he was trying to help us--I'd love to thank him.. BLUEGRASS RULES BABY!!! I've learned how to forgive and be forgiven by my kids. If I won $100 million, I'd give $99 mil of it to ministries, then spend the rest on Bill Monroe's mandolin and a double expresso, if there was any left. My current age is 60!. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be filled with patience & wisdom. I was so completely wrong. My current career aspirations are to make the very best purchases I can at the weekly auction I attend! My best friend would tell you I'm a terrific guy, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as someone who pays off my best friends to say nice things about me. Style!? I'm balding when I use to have 32" hair! Style!? I mean, I'm about 35 lbs. overweight with 5 missing teeth that inhibits my great desire for smiling! Style!? My glasses are a little less thick than the polar caps! Style!? I share my home with my indispensable wife and great daug...Expand for more
hter, which I find humbling and uplifting. The biggest "trophy" I've got on my mantel is when I lowered my pride enough to admit that I was a sinner in need of God's forgiveness and grace, and he saved my miserable soul from righteous judgment!!! Can you dig it? In 10 years, I hope to be still playin' bluegrass. I'm going to get there by keepin' on playin' bluegrass. My oldest friend was Randy Peischl--we met hanging out on 7th street behind "Slim's Inn" [bar] playing basketball, and had the same lonely teenage feelings--also, we were both very destructive and enjoyed pushing trouble to the limit. He died a few years ago--I think of him OFTEN. I remember as a kid going into Emma Tropiano's little store on 9th street by Gordon street--two of my brothers were in jail and my only two sisters were in detention centers. She would love to embarrass me by saying something like, "Watch it, here comes trouble! Keep your eye on him, Sal [her slave husband], he's going to steal something--his whole family is in jail--count the cans on the shelves." The LORD used that for good, as I have a burden to reach out to the unwanted of society; thank you, Emma. So, my beautiful daughter, Hannah, is entering 12th grade, plays all sports [just like dad] & A average in everything [nothing like dad!]. She's into the Word more than I am, shame to say. Caleb is 20 and after 17 months in the Marines is ready for 4th rank! [158 sit ups in TWO minutes!]--married to a beauty and they attend church regular--yeah, baby! that's my boy-6' 1", 200 lbs. Then there's David Elijah, 22--just got married July 4th ["independence" day?]--he and his wife have a mission in Guatemala--orphanage with 16 special kids, and expecting one of their own next April!!--in spite of my fumbling as a dad the LORD was gracious and blessed my socks off!!! I hope I hear from you
