David's Story

Greetings WHS Class of 1971: Today, I'm feeling guilty as I am often sent notices that classmates have checked-in on this site to look at my profile just as I've looked at many of yours. Until today, I have written nothing. I apologize. If interested you can see more about me on LinkedIn.com. Short of that, here's a brief story of life's bullet points: Following high school, I worked my way through UNLV earning a BS in Finance. I began what would be a 30 year career in commercial banking (business clients primarily) working in Las Vegas for the most part. In 1987 I earned an MBA and my highest career position achieved was Executive VP/Chief Credit Officer. In addition to my career I have always been involved in nonprofit work locally such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Nevada School of the Arts, United Way, and numerous banking and Christian organizations. In 1992 I was a member of the first group of Peace Corps Volunteers to Russia. There were 100 of us selected with a requirement of a master's degree and a minimum 10 years business experience. After my two year PCV commitment in Saratov, Russia was complete and I had achieved international development success, I added that experience to my confidence living overseas and my new Russian language and stayed for two more years. I enjoyed living the ex-pat life as an executive with the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) managing com...Expand for more
mercial lending programs at seven banks in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorad, and Tula, Russia.(Look along the Volga River in European Russia to find these cities and think "COLD"). I am very happily single! I never married, but I always wanted to be a father. In 1997, I returned to Russia and adopted two older children (5 years old) from orphanages near Nizhny Novgorad In 2003, my sons and I returned to Russia once more to adopt two more boys (7 and 8 years old) from the same region. So now, I'm a single father of four. (FYI, I was approved to adopt six children; boys or girls). I'm good at this role and enjoy it thoroughly. I'm committed to those kids which means I have no "social" life. Having seen so many tragic stories of upbringing in broken or chaotic homes, I must say there are some real advantages to being the sole decision maker, of course with that comes all the responsibility. In addition to currently managing my own house with four teenage sons, I'm Executive Director of Social Services for The Salvation Army in Southern Nevada. I manage all homeless service programs, vocational kitchen and dining room, vocational housing and training, transitional apartments, mental health programs, and family service programs. I love my work! I wish you all well! Please feel free to contact me if you'd like, but be patient, I may not remember your name immediately, 40 years is a long time after all. David
