David's Story

I left highschool and went into the Navy in 1958 so did not graduate with my class of 60. I had a great time in the Navy but am sorry I missed all those years in Highschool with my friends. After the Navy, I got my GED and then many years later went to college. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Colorado. That school is now known as Colorado University, Pueblo. I attended Graduate school through the University of Northern Colorado, AirForce Academy Campus, Colorado, Springs, Co.. It was fun going back to school as an older student but I think I would have rather gotten all those years of school out of the way when I was much younger. I had a lot of jobs over the years, including running my own business. Two of those jobs were the longest and are providing me with my retirement, not to mention Social Security. I was in Management with Metropolitan Insurance Company where I worked and lived all over the United States. The other lengthy job was with the State of Colorado, where I worked for the Department of labor in Denver and subsequently, Colorado Springs. My first marriage lasted for 18 years. We had one child, a daughter. I also have a grandson who is 12 years old. My current wife, Susan, and I have been married for 19 years. We have no children of our own but she had 4 boys by her first marriage. Two of them are currently career Military. One Marine and one Navy. Susan has 3 grandchildren, all under the age of 2. I am currently retired and living on the beautiful Sonoran Desert, 40 miles south of Tucson. Our elevation here is about 3,000 feet above sea level. We live on 10 acres in a very rural area, surrounded by 8,000 foot mountains. It is absolutely be...Expand for more
autiful and very green here on the high desert. As a sideline income, Susan and I have been involved in the theatre for the past 5 years. Most of our acting jobs have been in dinner theatre doing mysteries and melodramas. This is a lot of work but I can't think of anything more fun. My other sideline income is woodworking. In addition to building my own decks, cabinets, furniture, etc., I have been commissioned during the past few years to do projects for others. Besides acting and woodworking, my other hobbies and passions are working on automobiles and building computers for myself and friends. Sometimes I wonder how I ever had time to work before retiring. ;) One thing is for sure, after all those years of wearing 3 piece suits, I have gotten as far away from that as possible. Susan and I are avid animal lovers and currently have two cats and one dog. I also enjoy the animal wild life out here including the deer, Bobcats, Puma, Coyotes and other four legged creatures such as various species of lizards. Bird watching is great also. Eagles, Hawks and other breeds can be seen almost anytime. Of course, like all of us, I have had my share of hurts and disappointments, but as long as I have God in my life, all is good. I have a half sister who still lives in Lansing. From what she tells me, the area has changed quite a bit. It breaks my heart to hear how Cal City and Lansing have digressed. What great places they were to grow up in. My mother and step father moved us to Cal City when I was in second grade. At that time, Hoover School was but a country school and we were sharing a classroon with another grade. It was really small. I enjoy hearing from those of you who remember me. David <><
