David's Story

Life In updating this (8-1-8) I discovered that I had only given my Wife, Jill an honorable mention. Here is how I have rectified that situation (and are no longer in the dog house. I met the love of my life while attending the U. I was helping out a friend and we met on Christmas eve. This was no big deal to us, since I was Jewish and so was she. Well, it was love at first sight and has been a whirlwind ever since. Jill is two years younger and much better looking than I ever was. She was a stay at home Mom and really did a great job with the kids, and supervising me. As I piled up degrees in school, she was instilling the best in our kids. As our kids have grown up, she has started her own business in real estate. Unlike me, she is licensed in Florida and Colorado. I gave up my Fla. license a while ago. We have been married for 40 years and we have two children. Our son just finished Med school in Michigan and is married to another MD. Our daughter is finishing her schooling as an RN is awaiting the right man to sweep her off her feet. She took a few years off to teach ski school to children in the Colorado mountains. We have always had pets, dogs to be specific. When we were a lot younger we bred Austrialian Terriers. Later on we just kept them as pets. They are great with kids; are very affectionate and they put up the usual "tormet" from well meaning young children. I had a great career in civil engineering, working on lots of interesting projects like the Orlando Arena and the Disney Parks in Florida and California. When I was working, I was licensed in Florida, Georgia and Colorado, which is where we now res...Expand for more
ide. We seemed to have moved around a lot compared to some of our friends. We still have friends in Florida that have been there their whole life. This includes two of my three sisters. We lived near the old "Dadeland" Mall when we were married and moved to our first house there. My work in Miami was OK for several years, but then it got less dependable and Orlando was booming. So we left Miami around 1980 or so and lived in Orlando until I was offered a job in southern CA around 1993. Unfortunately the engineering field was getting hammered in the late part of last century (sounds wierd, "Last Century"). We moved back to Florida, Palm City on the east coast. It seemed like I had a great job and we had what was for us, our "dream" house. We had adapted to life with mild temps, and without humidity in CA. We also got to see a lot of CA while we were there, so when we moved back to Fla I was not surprised to find it it to be too hot and humid. I found a great job Denver and it didn't take too much convincing to get Jill to agree to go skiing with me in CO. I had always had some back problems but with the right meds, I could go and do what I wanted. It all caught up with me in 2000; I had my first back surgery when the pain was debilitating. And it only got worse. Right now I am on disability thanks to three lunbar and two neck surgeries. Those seriously limited my mobility. It got so bad that I couldn't enjoy skiing anymore. The 24/7 painkillers are almost as bad as the pain. So now, I am taking back from the system I helped keep going for all those years by getting SS early. More/better news at 11.............
