David's Story
I've lived in Ventura County since 1970. Thought at first that I would leave after working for Legal Aid for a couple of years and ended up becoming a member of the community/feeling very much at home and loving my SoCal life. Have lived in the same home since 1988 and would just as soon never move from it unitl, you know, feet first and all that. Ooops, check out my April update to see why you never say "never."
<<April 16, 2010 - Update>> Serendipity is one way to describe how I came to be living in the 'feet first' home and it's also pretty much how we came (a week ago tomorrow) to the decision to move. It began and ended with offers we couldn't refuse and now (even though my brother, Mark, reminds me that last August I told him that I would never live in Ojai again because it gets "Too God Damn Hot") here we are saying that we would not want to move back to Ventura and that it would be great if we end up living in this house until, you know the mantra, 'feet first.' Had an almost 40 year career in the law - now retired. The last few years I focused exclusively on Collaborative Practice and Mediation. Helped people negotiate the shoals of the divorce process without resort to threats or litigation and to emerge with their dignities, their relationships with children and other family members and their fiscal affairs intact. Dignified, respectful and empowering divorce solutions are much better for the soul, mine included, than the divorce litigation that I did for most of my career in law.
Also, a wonderful 25 year flying career/avocation which I very regretfully decided it was time to give up a couple of years ago because I'm just not as sharp, focused and intense these days as I want my pilot to be. So, it doesn't matter that the FAA hasn't noticed because it's my butt (along with those of my passengers and people on the ground) that are on the line. But, the joys and experiences of those 25 years, they can't take that away from me.
