David's Story

Life In the nearly 30 years since graduation, don't cringe!! it has been almost 30 years, you would not believe what has gone on in my world. I lived it and almost don't believe some of it. But it was a ride that I would take again. I tried college.........couldn't play an instrument.....tried work...... What was left that I could be good at and feed myself. So I got married!!! Soon to be 28 years ago. Suprising part of that is she kept me. So now I pay for college, have figured out that a lawn mower is an instrument and work my behind off to make ends meet. Great American Dream. But I have a 23 year old boy/man for a son and a 17 year old man/boy for a idle. Both mothered by a COP. I said it and you heard it. David Shoemake married for 28 years to a COP. Can the world take turns or what? Who would have put money on me being partnered to a COP. I probably could have drawn up a design pattern for a mate and not done a better job that life itself. Trust in fate!!!! As far as career goes, I retired from DuPont after 15 years of being trapped inside the fences of a job. Good job but had to go. Spent the next 12 years working for an old classmate and made plenty of money and even more experience. I guess you can say the same fences cropped up and ended up same story...Good job but had to go. For the past almost four years have been running my own painting business. Have accomplished each goal established and more. I would have liked to have been doing this all along but as I look back the time and experiences mentioned above was needed more than opportunity itself. I can only hope the patten has changed and "Good job but had to go" syndrome stays away. At least until I have either made enough not to care or find something else that makes me happy. Of which seems to always be the most important BE HAPPY. I can seem to find that any place I look. Wh...Expand for more
en I am not working or making sure other people are I enjoy fishing and golf. Am a way better fisherman than golfer. Dang little ball is hard to hit where you want it. Seems so easy on TV. But my true passion is going to Port Sulfer LA and catching speckled trout. I have found my true peace there. I try to go at least once a month and purge my thought process for the next one. Seems to be working. Plus, fried trout is hard to beat. As far a trials go I have had my share. I fought and kicked cancers butt. Boy what a thing that was. WOW!!!!!! But ran through that with grace and strength. I guess... Been cancer free for 14 years and going strong. That was nothing compared to the next major trial. A business arrangment seperated me and my best friend in life. That has been tougher than Cancer. I feel like a divorcee...I think. But, as the saying goes, LIFE GOES ON. It may not be the same or may not be as good but it goes on. Strange thing business and friendship. I strongly don't suggest it. But the majority of the experiences I have previously mentioned were from that arrangement/friedship and I am a better person for them. But the hardest of hard was the passing of my mother. Being able to say you don't have a mom is not a feeling you wish to say. But having her also has made me a better person and suprising enough loosing her has too! APPRECIATE WHAT YOU HAVE CAUSE NOTHING IS GUARANTEED. Now to us!!!We have 30 coming and a party is on the way. Only thing the party has to be planned so I you are reading this and feel like offering some suggestions to wht we should do for 30 p[ass it along. Not bragging or complaining but seems like each of the last reunions were cool and this one will be no different. I have had conversation with people and suggestions have ranged from an informal bar-b-que to going on a cruise. So, make your preferences known!!!
