David's Story

Attended Belmont Junior High School (1965-1968), and New Providence High School (1968 - 1971). Graduated with a BS-Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1971-1975), as well as a commission as a Second lieutenant in the U.S. Army through the ROTC program, then went to the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee to study Surface Chemistry (1975 - 1977).. In 1977, David entered the U.S. Army Chemical Corps. He attended the Chemical Officer Basic Course (1977-1978), where he was the distinguished graduate. His first assignment was with the 98th and 242d Chemical Detachments, which deployed to Fuerth, Germany and the 1st Armored Division. The detachments expanded and merged to become the 69th Chemical Company (NBC Defense), during which time Dave was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. After just more than a year in Germany, Dave was selected to become the Division Support Command Security & Intelligence Officer (S-2), a job which he held until shortly after being promoted to Captain (1980). He then transferred to the 3d Brigade of the 1st Armored Division as the Brigade Chemical Officer. In 1981, Dave chose to remain on Active Duty, and returned to the US to attend the Chemical Officer Advanced Course (1981-82). His next assignment was at the Edgewood Area of the Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD, working at the Army's Chemical Defense research laboratory (1982 - 1985). While there, he worked on chemical/biological decontaminants, and the XM40 NBC protective respirator. He developed an innovative mask periphery for the mask, for which he was awarded a Statutory Invention Registration. David married Maureen McDo...Expand for more
nald Stark in 1983. Three children followed in rapid succession - Chris in 1985, Rachel in 1987, and Mike in 1989. Shortly after the birth of Chris, the new family transferred to Fort Huachuca, AZ, where Dave assumed the job of Brigade Chemical Officer and Training Officer for the 11th Signal Brigade (1985-87). In 1987, Dave was passed over for promotion to Major, so he decided to leave active duty and find a civilian job. After completed an MBA at the Fort Huachuca extension campus of the Golden Gate University(1986-87), the family moved back to Maryland, and settled in Bel Air. Dave began working for EAI Corporation (1988), a small defense contractor, and grew along with the company through mergers and its acquisition by Science Applications International Corp (2005). In October, 2013, SAIC split into "New SAIC" and Leidos -- Dave was in the Leidos portion for two weeks before being let go. Fortunately, Dave had obstinately stuck with the Army Reserve Individual Mobilization Augmentee program, and earned enough good years to qualify for retirement, and the Army retirement pay started in July 2013. So now Dave is enjoying the life of a man who doesn't have to work if he doesn't wish to. David's interests include Germany, Track & Field, Soccer, Boston Celtics, New England Patriots, Red Sox Nation, Tom Brady, Larry Bird, Carl Yastrzemski. Music he likes includes Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Renaissance. Books he likes include A Song of Ice and Fire, The Hunger Games trilogy, The Hobbit. Movies he likes include Serenity & MST3K. TV shows he likes include The Big Bang Theory, Sunday Night Football on NBC, Firefly.
