David's Story
Life
In case any of you were wondering whatever happened to David Turbow....I'm still here, thank G-d. I studied Biological Sciences at UCSB from 1987-1991, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree. I jumped straight into a Master's Degree Program in Environmental Science at California State University Fullerton, finishing in 1994. I've since taught Environmental Science, Human Ecology, Biology, and Social Ecology at places like Chapman University, University of Redlands, Cypress College, Fullerton College, and UC Irvine.
I still love music! I co-founded an Orange County-based alternative rock band called SUPERNOVICE in 1992, sharing vocal duties, playing guitar, and writing tunes. Put out three albums and and two EPs, made a music video, toured a little bit, and never strayed far from complete obscurity! Started my own Garden Grove-based record label called ONSET RECORDS in 1994. Lotsa stuff to be found online about that, if you're interested. Still play shows both solo and with the band periodically 'round these here parts, so come on down and say "hi"!
In 2003, I finished my Ph.D. Degree in Environm...Expand for more
ental Health Science & Policy at UCI. My dissertation research involved quantifying health risk to marine bathers. Dude, people get sick after going in the ocean at HB?! Totally. Just doin' my part to keep the ocean clean.
I still love to do board sports: surfing, snowboarding, and weak attempts at skating now and then. I've become a rough water swimmer, marathon runner, and top age group triathlete over the past several years.
Currently, I'm working as an Assistant Professor of Health Sciences at Touro University International in Cypress, CA.
I live in Huntington Beach.
Oh, yeah. The answer to the burning question...I'm still single. But, hopefully, marriage and children are in my future someday.
I love to hear from former classmates!
Cheers,
David
Workplace
My career as a college professor has been fulfilling and rewarding so far. It's tough work, of course, but I enjoy what I do very much and I feel that my profession is an honest one. In addition to my teaching/research gigs, I've also worked as a public health and environmental consultant. That was pretty fun too.
