David's Story

David's schools include La Serna High School. David later attended BYU (Brigham Young University) (Radio & Television Broadcasting, Spanish). David still works at Electronics Research, Inc.. The details . . . . . After graduating from La Serna I attended Brigham Young University for two years and then took a little hiatus from school and served an LDS Church mission in Mexico for two (2) years where I became fluent in speaking and writing the Spanish language. After my mission experience I returned to BYU to complete my college degree and gain some experience in broadcasting and then marrying my first wife. I started my career as a DJ/announcer on a local radio station in the Provo, Utah while attending college being married and having kids (She and I have four together). While still in college I switched to station engineering doing part time radio engineering jobs working for several western AM & FM broadcast stations. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications with a minor in Spanish I moved to the mid-west a taught electronics in a broadcasting curriculum as a college instructor at Iowa Central Community College. After several years as an instructor I did some graduate work on a masters at Iowa State University but did not complete it do to family and work commitments. I later left teaching and began working with broadcast equipment manufacturers in product training and in technical sales support roles. During my life I have worked for several well know broadcast industry manufacturers such as Harris Corporation Broadcast Division (now Gates-Air), Broadcast Electronics (BE), Acrodyne (AI), Nurad Microwave, Scientific Atlanta – Satcom Division (SA), Richardson Electronics, and Electronics Research Inc. (ERI). ...Expand for more
I don’t count my time at SA or Nurad as being bright spots in my life more educational and uneventful. After being married for nearly ten years (plus 4 children) my wife and I divorced. Apparently my employer knew I needed some sort of a break so Harris Broadcast seconded me to an off-shore Harris group called HBSN spending four years in Nigeria in Western Africa as an in-country operations manager (one of the more exciting periods of my life). By the time I got back to the USA I was ready to settle down a little and married my present wife. At Broadcast Electronics (BE) I began travelling again selling broadcast AM & FM transmitters and digital audio systems in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Travelling extensively during this period of my life I saw a lot of the world. After several years I changed companies and sold TV transmitters and antenna systems in Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean for Acrodyne Industries based near Philadelphia PA and later moving near Leesburg and Orlando Florida. I stop travelling overseas and took a broadcast product line manager position at Richardson Electronics near Chicago but living near Quincy, Illinois. Being at home on weekends was a poor idea so a few years later I moved on and joined Electronics Research, Inc. in Chandler, Indiana as a senior sales engineer. My wife and I have lived here and greatly enjoy the area located near the Ohio River on the Southern Indiana and Kentucky border. I have worked now in the broadcast industry for nearly 40 years. My wife has a large Kennel and she shows Miniature Pinchers, French Bulldogs, and Boxers. She and I also have 20 grandchildren living from Camarillo, CA to Lakeville, CT and points in between. Life has been very good to me.
