David's Story
I live in San Francisco, California and have been a homeowner here since 1972. My partner and I married in 2008, but this year (2016) we are celebrating our 50th anniversary since we met. I attended Twentynine Palms High School, Twentynine Palms Elementary School, and Yucca Valley Elementary School. After graduation from high school in 1955 and working that summer I moved to San Francisco where I attended City College of San Francisco, while working part-time, and graduated from there with an AA degree. 3 years when I resigned and was accepted at UC Berkeley with an EE major. However, after 6 weeks at Berkeley my Air Force Reserve unit was called to active duty for the Cuban missile crisis and I had to drop out. After release from the Air Force and with limited resources I then worked for Western Electric in Sunnyale doing engineering for telephone companies on the west coast. After 3 years of living and working on the peninsula, and after meeting my life partner, I resigned from Western Electric to find another job in San Francisco, which I did at Caltrans (then Division of Highways). I retired from there 32 years later in 2000.
