Life Well, believe it or not, I graduated from Southwest Texas State in August '02 with a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Anthropology. Since then I have stayed quite busy. I have worked in children's shelters for over 3 years, and, with previous positions, I dealt with children in CPS care, as well as adolescents recently released from juvenile detention centers, children displaced from home due to family conflict, etc. With our emergency children's shelters, we were the immediate stop for children that were removed from their homes for abuse and/or neglect. After my job with the youth shelters, I was doing at-risk youth/family counseling for a nonprofit agency in New Braunfels, TX. I have also been a contract counselor for youth in schools that are having trouble at school and/or at home. I have taught social skills classes for elementary age children at Hoffman Lane Elementary, as well as parenting classes at the Westside Community Center for truancy court referrals. I recently (Nov. '04) received a job as a Center Site Coordinator for San Antonio Youth Centers. I will be coordinating after school programs for at-risk inner-city youth.
