Mary Lou's Story
Life
Hi!
I performed a lot after High School. Always grateful to Mrs. Shuey, Mr. Marini, Mr. Maske, Mr. Buonpane, Mr. and Mrs. Foulkes and Andy Kemetz for the musical education and patience till I finally "got it" . I attended Eastman School of Music 2 yrs. where I sang occassionaly on weekends with Chuck Mangione's band at Al Green's Tavern in Rochester, N.Y. 1963 brought interesting opportunities my way when I won an audition to tour Europe with a Mitch Miller sponsored USO tour as soloist with the Yellow Jackets from U. of Rochester. for three months. A hundred miles per day and singing at the bases all over Germany, and at SHAPE headquarters in Paris, France. After 1963 I decided to go to Kent State University (Actually, I was told I should go to a more " socially oriented" school by the Dean at Eastman) where I was awarded several leads in some of the first productions held at the Wright Curtis Theater. ( That's how OLD I am) Subsequently tried a couple of summers at Kenley Players going from Warren, O. to Columbus to Dayton. Robert Goulet, Carol Lawrence. Eva Gabor etc. would star and we would memorize our parts till they arrived in Warren. It was fun but I realized it was not "real".(See pics in my profile )In 1965 I left Kent State U. with only 3 quarter hours to go for my degree, to marry Monte Hoffman, a cellist in the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra where I met lots of famous musicians and enjoyed performing as a soprano...Expand for more
soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Lucas Foss. (This is getting to be too long.) Anyway, after 3 ys. I divorced Monte and later I met Dave, my present husband to whom I have been happily married for 42 yrs. He is a construction engineer and had 4 kids when I met him. So I have 4 step kids, 11 step grandchildren and live in Indianapolis, IN. Stay home and love it. My parents passed away in '93 and '96 and I kept the house till 2001. We love to travel, Dave loves racing( Nascar and Indy) and some of the girls I went to 3rd grade with at Twp. school still come out to see me now and again. I love Indiana. The weather is about 10 degrees warmer and it is easy to find things here. They have nice medical facilites here and I had a heart attack and 5 bypasses in 1999. My husband had one in 1998. He still looks "buff" but I packed the old weight on. I was cute on the outside but I'm now cute on the INSIDE! Ha Ha! I love to laugh and we have a great time. I would love to hear from others in my class. I have e-mailed Suzanne Drybread and went to a concert of Chuck Mangione's where he permitted me to come back to the greenroom for an autograph. I don't think he recognized me cause he asked "where is Bambi?" and I was standing right in front of him. OK! so I changed a little ( LITTLE???) Life is too short not to laugh a lot about the situations we may find ourselves in. My husband loves me to death and I am so happy .
