David Harper:

CLASS OF 1978
Tucson, AZ

David's Story

I entered high school as an enthusiastic freshman hogging teacher time in algegra and biology as bored juniors and seniors rolled their eyes. I evolved into a senior with only 1 class, more interested in a full-time job that allowed me to spend freely on friends and entertainment, than applying myself at school. I graduated unfulfilled (because I refused to challenge myself), with no future plans (wouldn't listen to advice if it was offered). During high school I played freshman baseball, club soccer, and loved P.E. I backpacked the Rincon, Catalina and Chirichua mountains multiple time with good Santa Rita friends. I played summer ball each year, Pony through Legion. As I look back I was a floater, fitting in equally well with the studious (I think I graduated in the top 10%, but am not sure), partiers (was asked not to come out for varsity baseball after some poor choices), jocks (was routinely one of the earliest chosen for team events), cowboys (chewed tobacco, listened to Willie and Waylon, & drove a pick-up truck),etc.. year before becoming "interested in school" and enrolling Pima College. I matriculated to the UofA and moved to within a block of campus. This eased my transition to college partying and bar-hopping; lifelong friends, memories and relationships were created in this period. The inevitable poor grades drove my choice to drop-out, liquidate and move to Alaska. Great adventure and friends, poor timing. The double-digit unemployment rate in the early '80's in Alaska after the pipeline was finished sent me back to Tucson. Opportunity knocked, offered by the father of a great friend. I started as the proverbial mail clerk at a local S&L, worked the corporate ladder, eventually being reincarnated as a white collar day-timer and a weekend jock. Good people; everyone of them. A working wife, two high schoolers, a couple of dogs and a cat hold down the homefront while I play everyday as the owner of apprAZe.com, a residential and commercial real estate appraisal servicesfirm with offices in Tucson and Mesa. Love the family! Love the job! I couldn't have one without the other.
