David's Story

Life -Attended US military Academy 76-79 (wish I had paid more attendtion to math and physics my senior year at Springfield) -Graduated U of O in 1980 (What a switch!) -Served on active duty with US Army 1980-1992: Infantry and Civil Affairs assignments, participated in the Multi-National Force, Sinai, Egypt ('84); Just Cause in Panama ('89); Desert Shield/Storm, Saudi/Kuwait ('90-'91); Provide Comfort, northern Iraq ('91); made several trips to Central America, Europe and middle east for training exercises). -Got out in 1992 and worked contract security in North Carolina ('94-'96) (second biggest mistake in my life); served in Army Reserve as instructor at the Special Warfare Center (middle eastern studies) ('93-'96); Exercise Planner for Civil Affairs at Joint Readiness Training Center (JRTC), Fort Polk, Louisianna ('96-'97); and served in Operation Joint Guard, Hungary, Croatia and Bosnia ('97-'98). -Recalled to Active Duty 1999, served again at JRTC ('99-'02); -Civil Affairs Officer for 5th Special Forces Group, to include Operation Ira...Expand for more
qi Freedom ('02-'03). -Served in the Office of Military Cooperation, US Embassy, Cairo, Egypt ('04-07). -Present assignment Civil Affairs Planner for Central Asian States, Special Operations Command, Central Command at MacDill AFB, Florida. I was in Pakistan until fall 08, now I am in Afghanistan. I list my military service because it is the easiest way to describe where I have been the past 33 years. Except for '85-'88 at Fort Ord, California, my adult life has been spent in the eastern US when not overseas: North Carolina, Georgia, Louisianna, Tennissee snd Florida. Currently divorced, no children. While the good times have out numbered the bad, there have been a lot of trying moments and some stupid decisions over the years. I am looking forward to finally retiring from the Army in 2009 (Maybe). No firm plans yet, but will choose a job that does not include wearing a pager or cell phone, weekend work, or involve travel away from home, where ever that ends up being. Really looking forward to our 35th reunion and seeing you all again.
