David's Story
Right after graduation, it was off to odd jobs and the hippie/drug culture for a couple years. I continued my electrical curriculum training at RETs before I dropped out and hired on with the then Michigan Bell Telephone (MBT) as switching equipment technician (SET), a top craft position that had me responsible for keeping the telepone network working. I wasn't there very long before I got drafted into the Army by June, 1969, winding up of all places in the bloody infantry. I did a tour in Viet Nam, and was fortunate to return back to civilian life relatively unscathed by spring 1971 ( unfortunately some of my current health issues such as diabetes and prostate cancer have been attributed to my hiking thru the numerous Agent Orange areas).
MBT called me back to my SET job and eventually elevated me thru a series of high end training programs and positions, mostly in the area of advanced technology, communications, and computer repair and programming. This lasted for nearly 31 years till I retired from MBT in 2000 to take my advanced skills, mostly corporate SQL data...Expand for more
base programming, into the private business arena. That lasted till about 2007 till building health issues forced me to close done my business and permanently retire. I do however continue to work in the computer and HDTV areas, mostly donating my time and skills to family, friends, and the of course, the needy.
For reasons mostly personal, I never got married nor did I have any children. I am quite a friends and family man, but I never saw the need to have my own swatch of heaven. Outside of the closeness you can see in the photo of me hugging my recently deceased mother, I find my emotional satisfactions in the world of animals. I am a maniacal cat lover, and belong to at least a half dozen shelter or charity groups, volunteering my time and money. If its furry and it purrs, I am hooked.
Obviously, a story that is neither super good nor super bad, but I am thankful that, at least by the grace of God, it is still ongoing. I still have horizons I'd like to see and share. If you want to experience some of these with me, please don't hesitate to say hi!
