David's Story

Life I currently live in Centerville, Utah. It is a smallish community about 15 miles north of Salt Lake City and has a nice small town feel to it. I am currently married and have 3 kids, 2 girls and a boy. We moved to Centerville in the spring of 2007 from Magna, which is about 15 miles west of Salt Lake City. We had lived in Magna for almost 10 years, when we traded west for north, to get into a bigger house. My parents have moved to St. George and are now both retired. I enjoy being outdoors, whether it is running, riding my mountain bike or just hiking in the foothills around Salt Lake. I am a Boy Scout leader and have been for the past 5 years. I also like roaming the hills in my green Jeep Wrangler. I ran in a marathon for the first time this spring (07) and completed it after 5 1/2 grueling hours. School In High School, I really only took classes that allowed me to hang out with my friends. Luckily I had friends who were intellegent, motivated and artistic. I know that other schools had more opprotunities, but at Williams you could explore and participate in events (like athletics, student body, FBLA, ect) that a larger school would have been too highly competitive for. For that I am grateful. College I gradutated from Williams High School in 1988 - at which time I went to ASU and promptly flunked out. I was partying way too much and didn't realize what needed to be done to complete classes. After that first semester, I transfered to Mesa Community College for a semester and retook all the cla...Expand for more
sses I had flunked. Then I moved back to Williams for the summer and prepared for my church mission. I got the call in late July and left in September to the Republic of the Marshall Islands and Guam. I was there for 2 years as a missionary. When I got back in 1991, I returned to Mesa Community College where I studied art for a year. In 1992, I then transfered to Utah State University in Logan, Utah. This is where I met my wife who was a music major. I graduated in 1997 with a BFA in Graphic Design and a minor in Illustration and for some strange reason, Japanese. My wife graduated the next semester in vocal performance. I really haven't been back since, but think that sometime it the future I may return to college to get a masters degree. I am just not sure when. Workplace I work at a public television station based at the University of Utah where I create the special effects for shows that we produce locally. I am head of the graphics department at this PBS station. I have been here for 9 years and I love my job. It isn't the best paying job, but I enjoy working in television and I think that what we do here makes a difference. We do live shows, and taped shows and athletics events. I also teach computer art classes at a community college, as we as classes for the University's outreach classes. I enjoy teaching as it keeps me sharp, especially when I have to answer questions, some of which I probably would not have personally encountered. My wife is also music teacher at several elementary schools.
