David's Story

Life Professional Experience: Dave was one of the founding Guides at The Mining Company, now known as About.com, in February 1998. Dave was their Focus on Mac Support Guide. Before that, he had his own Mac support website called Mac Help by Bmer. One of the editors at The Mining Company happened to come across it one day and emailed Dave to ask him if he was interested in becoming a Mac Support Guide at their newly formed company. Needless to say, he jumped at the opportunity. After working 35+ years in the electronics repair field, Dave has an enormous passion for tackling difficult problem issues and helping Mac users. A member of The Association of Macintosh Trainers, Dave was also a staff member at the former NoWonder.com, where he assisted thousands of Mac users with technical problems. He also started the former Mac 611 Repair™ which had offered technical phone support through Keen.com, and had integrated it into Focus on Mac Support at About.com. Dave's Focus on Mac Support site at About.com had been profiled in a number of Macintosh publications worldwide. Access Internet Magazine gave the site a four star rating. Internet Magazine in the United Kingdom rated it number one in their Top Ten of Mac resource sites. The French magazi...Expand for more

Mac Owners Support Group, aka MacOSG, was conceived in February, 2004 as G5 Owners Support Group by Dave Merten. After purchasing a DOA Power Mac G5, and noticing on Apple Discussion Boards that people seemed to be having a lot of common hardware problems with them, Dave decided to open a support site for Power Mac G5 owners. He called it G5 Owners Support Group and register the G5support.com domain. After Apple announced the iMac G5, he expanded the site by adding more forums to include iMac G5 owners also. Then when Apple announced the switch to Intel, he decided to expand some more to include all Mac owners. He changed the name of the site to Mac Owners Support Group and registered the macosg.com domain. The site has grown steadily to include a diversified group of members from all over the globe. MacOSG produces a podcast with two 'crews' - USA and European. They invite all Mac owners to register with the group and become an interactive part of their "family" of friendly passionate Mac users.
