David's Story
Life
What do I do for a living? Oriental Medicine (acupuncture, herbs, qi qong), Computer Science; martial arts; songwriting; educator.
What have I done in life? My three children are quite a joy to me in my life. My favorite past task helped discover genes for disease. I recognize tremendous blessings all around me. Today I find alternative approaches for many people who are stuck, unable to find good health. Mostly, I follow my heart.
I find that structure and beliefs are a good thing. Letting go is a good thing.
School
My biggest crush was Kathy Cawby, I was too shy to tell her. She gave me a baritone uke one time when I got the nerve to go visit her. She was and is awesome. Of course, I felt most of the girls in our class were awesome too!
Many teachers inspired me. I think Shawnee Mission was one of the best places to grow up. I'll never forget our physics teacher who gave up college teaching to teach at our school. It inspired me to be a physics lab assistant and to take extra classes -- I remember taking history in the...Expand for more
summer.
My craziest memory was with Gary Crumbpacker, he was trying to get a phone to ring up with his shoe and a nickel in a parking lot by pounding on it, only it did not have a phone attached. Gary looked like Jimmy Hendrix only he was white. A tall, lanky kid with curly hair in incredible spirals -- like he was plugged into a light socket. Gary bet me he could do it. So when the police arrived I ducked underneath the fence and manage to escape them between houses, bushes, trees, and ditches. They hounded him for months about that guy that they thought stole the phone. They were as crazy as he was ... however, we had been out late and climbed up on top of a building and played handball on the roof. Why we do such things is beyond me. It is a wonder we all live so long.
I wouldn't change even one single minute of high school even though I was too shy, quite nerdy, and totally out of the moving, hip things of the time. I spent more time tutoring than socializing. At least I was happy and quite curious to learn all I could learn.
