David's Story
Life
After high school graduation in 1961, I married Janie Smith and attended Murray Junior College in Tishomingo, transferring to OSU in 1963, and graduating 26 May 1965. My grades were so outstanding, I found out I would graduate at 5 PM on 24 May!
After two months as an assistant district forester for Dierks, I entered the Air Force in August. After nearly 18 months in Maine (two winters, Brrrrrrrr), it was off to Monkey Mountain in May 1967, perhaps the safest place to be in all of Viet Nam. Unfortunately, there was also six months at Dong Ha, a not quite so safe place!
After seven years and two children (girl ÃÂÃÂ Kelly & boy ÃÂÃÂ David), I returned from Viet Nam to a divorce in May of 1968.
While stationed at Oklahoma City Air Force Station (not Tinker!), I met and married Nancy Ruth Golliver on 17 August 1969. Then, it was off to assignments in D.C., Nebraska, Hawaii, Virginia, Germany and San Antonio. Along the way, Nancy & I had two children (girl ÃÂÃÂ Carrie & Boy ÃÂÃÂ Richard). Nancy fell in love with San Antonio, so we stayed when I retired from the Air Force in 1986 after 21 years of service. She taught school, becoming a national award winning journalism teacher, while I became a computer security consultant and later, a LAN Manager.
Nancy was diagnosed with cancer in October of 1999, and after a valiant fight, she died 17 June 2000, ending a 31 year marriage.
In June 2001, Idabel high school classmate Sue Voyles-Warren arranged for Norma Voyles-Lee (Class of 1959) and I to begin sending e-mails to each other. (Her husband died in November of 1999.) In mid-March 2002, we realized we were way beyond friendship, became engaged, and were married May 26, 200...Expand for more
2. She had been in Mt Pleasant for 40+ years, and was/is a retired school teacher. After getting my last child out of college, I retired again, and we moved to her home in Mt Pleasant & later bought a country home on 3 acres..
In 2008, we sold our country place. So, we now live in Mt Pleasant and have fun spending time with children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, church work, volunteer work with charities, Boy Scouts, gardening, yard work and just doing things together. As a family, we have five children, Twelve grand-children, eight great grandchildren, and two pussycats - Buzz & Fritz..
