Dawn's Story

I was the one that never fit in really. Kind of awkward and odd. Too straight to be a burn out, to average to hang with the brainy kids, not fashionable or pretty enough to be with the "in" crowd. Too much of an individual to conform. I did not make many friends but folks thought I was sociable. I was always with the "uncool" kids. The ones that were not so popular were always the most interesting because they did not have looks to fall back on. School was a bittersweet thing because I was an individual. I was the one that always swam against the currant. The price a teenager pays for that is being thought of as weird. I guess when I joined the KEY club, I realized I was not the only misfit and oddball in school. I realized being me was good enough. Sometimes it just takes time to find your place...Expand for more
in school and in the world. School got a lot better for me at that point. I still wasn't popular or pretty but people still thought I was pretty much ok anyhow. The best feeling in the world is being accepted just because you are you. The years have been pretty kind to me. I have a place on the beautiful East End of Long Island with my fiance, and am looking forward to our annual trip with my Fiancee (hope to be married very soon, second time's the charm) to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. Love to travel and my 3 cats. Never had kids but his children are MORE than enough for me. Life has come full circle for me. I think I like myself MUCH better now than I did before and I think if I could ever meet up with those that used to pick on me because I was different, I'd smile and say "look at me now!" :D
