Dawn's Story
Life
Some changes have taken place since my last update, so thought I'd add them. Life is still great and does keep getting better and better! My daughter gave us our fifth grandchild on January 3. Karson Wayne is adorable and no doubt will be very spoiled as he is our first grandson! We're all very excited and they live very close, so Grammy will get to spoil this one rotten! My youngest (son) got married June 4, 2005. His wife is beautiful and sweet! They currently live close to Tyler, Texas and are working for Teen Mania Ministries (teenmania.org if you're interested) as well as serving as Youth Directors at their church in Mineola. My oldest daughter was in a car accident in Sarasota on August 24, 2000. She died August 25, but left me with a beautiful reminder of herself in my granddaughter, born 3 1/2 months early at 1 lb, 13 1/2 oz. She is healthy, happy and very smart! She has a wonderful adopted Mommy who I count as my adopted daughter. My two oldest (step-daughters) have given us 3 granddaughters who we don't see nearly enough!
I am the Administrative Assistant to the County Sheriff. Started here June 2, 2008, and after almost a year, I still love it. Getting a real education in Law Enforcement and enjoying the challenge of learning new things.
I am also a Weight Watcher's Leader and enjoy helping others achieve their goals! As a member, I lost 30 lbs. and have been successful in maintaining that loss for over 6 years. I've been through some tough times but hanging on and doing well. I still work out nearly every day and have added some new workout dvd's to the collection. I have a great workout buddy and we keep each other motivated and staying accountable. I still do the 3 and a quarter mile run and am my own biggest competition. If I did it fast today, I want to do it faster tomorrow! We also completed the OKC Half Marathon in 2 hours 46 minutes and 48 seconds. Not bad for a first try. We're talking about doing the full marathon next April. Will see what happens. We've also begun training for the MS 150 which is a ride for Multiple Sclerosis held each July, riding from Ama...Expand for more
rillo, TX to our little town of Canadian the first day (100 miles) and another 50 miles the second day. Recently had a chance to ride a zip line and do a climbing wall--lots of fun! Having a good time with staying healthy!
I'm married to a man who has helped me keep my sanity when nothing in the world made sense and who has loved me through the good, bad and the really, really ugly! I don't know what I'd do without him (don't want to either!)
School
I really enjoyed high school, but felt really uncomfortable most of the time, but I guess overall, I didn't turn out too wierd. I really enjoyed my kids school years and was very involved (it's easy to do in a town of 2500) with all their school activities and with their friends. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't worry so much about fitting in and would just enjoy myself more. Still have many happy memories of SHS and the friends made there!
College
Went to Baptist Bible College for one year. Didn't really know what I wanted out of life. Met the man who I married later had my 3 kids and spent 12 years with. Have taken some college classes since then but still deciding what I want to be when I grow up! My heart loves photography, so I'd love to take some photography classes. I've had some of my photos matted and framed and actually sold some! Pretty cool when someone wants to know "who is the photographer?"
Workplace
Since moving to Canadian, I've worked at several jobs. I started in banking, but didn't have enough work to keep busy. I went into insurance and spent the next several years (in between babies) working for the same insurance agency. Since that time, I've done many different things; worked in a Dentist's office, waited tables at a coffee shop and restaurant, helped start a Portrait Studio (which I loved and hope to do photography in the future) and for almost 10 years was secretary for the Methodist Church here in Canadian. I worked for a year at a Tire and Service Center and for four years in our County Library. I'm now enjoying a much different line of work in the Sheriff's Office and learning new things all the time.
