Dawn's Story
Wow - where to begin?? I graduated MAI in January 1981 and began college in March. I got a BBA in Management from Kennesaw State University here in Georgia.
I got married in 1985 to Keith Lane (yes, that's 22 years now), and we lived in Kennesaw until 1989, when we moved to Tampa, Florida. We returned from Tampa to Conyers, Georgia in 1998, and we still live here today.
From track & cross country in high school, I continued running in local races, and by 1986 began doing triathlons. In 1987 & 1988 I qualified for and completed the Ironman World Triathlon Championships in Hawaii. I also completed 4 other Ironman distance races between then and 1993.
In 1990, just after moving to Florida, I started my own clothing business, DawnSport, making women's , men's and children's running and triathlon clothes. I travelled extensively in the eastern US with that business until calling it quits when we decided to start a family.
In 1998, my daughter Sara Jean was born, (which prompted the move back to ...Expand for more
GA to be near all the grandparents), and in 2000 my son James was born.
Currently, we are a homeschooling family - with Sara Jean entering 7th grade and James, 3rd/4th grade.
They are both athletes as well, and are both on a USA Swimming team, of which I am now one of the coaches. I also coach a summer league team of about 40 kids. I found coaching kids to be one of the most fun and rewarding jobs I've ever had!
I have a huge garden, and grow most of our own fruits/veggies, in addition to several flower gardens. I also take care of the gardens at our church, Ebenezer United Methodist, where I'm also on the board of trustees and sing in the choir.
My parents both still live here in Mableton, GA, and my husband's parents live in Macon, GA. Several of my cousins have moved nearby after leaving P'burgh as well. I haven't been in touch with anyone from our class since attending the 1991 reunion, so it's been a very long time since hearing from anyone. I look forward to seeing others' stories!
