Dawn's Story

Life Life's been pretty good, I really can't complain. I have been married for 16 years and have one child - he is a wonderful 15 year old named Austin. Austin is the light of my life. I met my husband through a guy that I used to date that was one of his best friends. We had actually known each other for about 3-4 years before we started dating. When a long-term relationship that I had been involved in ended, he and I started going surfing and water skiing together. He was my shoulder to cry on and really put up with a lot. Next thing I know we were dating, and then getting married. Austin came along very soon and very unexpected as I was on the pill! He was diagnosed as an ovarian cyst and all the pregnancy tests the doctor did came back negative but my First Response OTC test was positive. They told me I took it wrong, etc. I was scheduled for surgery on a Thursday to have my right ovary removed and the weekend before I got really sick, Rob (my husband) was out of town, so I called my brother (a dr.) and he said to get to the ER where he met me. They did an ultrasound and I was 13.5 weeks pregnant, here he was worried about the cyst having ruptured or my appendix! Austin was born June 13, 1988 weighing ...Expand for more
in at 11 pounds (that is not a typo)! Yes he is an only child since they say the second one is always bigger than the first!! Come on, those who know me know I am 5'10" and no lite weight but please, I didn't think I could handle anything bigger than an 11 pounder. Today, I am a Territory Manager for a Catalyst and Specialty Chemical Company, it is an interesting job. It is what my friends refer to as a guy job. I call on plants and refineries and sell them specialty chemicals and catalysts. Not exactly what I thought I would end up doing 20 years ago when my interests were more along the lines of the medical field. I always figured I would end up as my brother's Physician's Assistant or something. I really like what I do, not too many people can say that about their job. We live in Pasadena/Deer Park about 7 miles from the house where I grew up in Fairmont Park. It is a lot of fun to run into people from HS. I don't always recognize people when they approach me and they don't always recognize me when I approach them, but that doesn't stop me from asking if they went to LP and striking up a conversation. Have any of you ever known me to be shy? I would be in the wrong line of business if that was the case!
