Dawn's Story
Wow—the class of 1969. We broke the dresscode barrier that year. Girls were finally allowed to wear shorts that spring. Within a year, girls were wearing blue jeans to school. A recognition and empowermet of the feminine mystique emerged. Things were really changing.
It's not to say there weren't plenty of bumps along the way. I remember my dad coming out to the car when Jay Stewart and Pat Tracy came to pick me up for band practice. I thought he would drag Pat out of the car and cut his hair. (He did do that to my brother.)🤣
I remember the rules we broke in the name of youth and the songs we sang in protest. I remember the mending of ...Expand for more
broken hearts and the promise of a better tomorrow. I walked away from graduation knowing we would, in our own way, make a difference. I was sure of that.
So to the class of '69, we made love and fought our wars in a different arena than our parents but in the end we learned that we were really not so different from them afterall. Time will always evolve changes. We've had our children, set rules of engagement for their social well being and with pride nourished them to become productive citizens.
We survived the disco years (thank God) that followed. We set new standards. WE ARE THE CLASS OF 1969.
Hope all is well with everyone.
