Dean's Story

I'm updating this for consistency and to get rid of obsolete events. For the latest go-to part Four. Here is Part One revised: Here are some high points: I graduated from the UW in 1973 in Microbiology, but the highlight was being a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and Army ROTC. I went into the Air Force, but didn't make it through flight school (Vietnam ended) and wound up in Air Force Intelligence service. After the Air Force, I got a Master's degree at the UW in Medical History in 1979. No jobs so I went to Dental school and graduated again from the UW in 1983. Tried Bellevue (my old office is UNDER the University Bookstore there) and we (married in 1985) moved to Californa in 1986. Partly for business and partly because my wife is from there (Belmont Shore) and she couldn't stand the weather in Seattle and frankly neither can I. I had a practice in Chatsworth, California for a few years and then did nursing homes, only, for about three years. I then started working for the Department of Corrections and now have about 18 years with them. I have worked in three different prisons. My other "job" is the Army Reserve, I have about 17 years with them and I just took over my unit, the 185th Med Co. We are a field Dental Company and the Army has sent us all over the world( Germany,Hawaii, Alaska, the Carribean and a lot dry, dusty, hot places). Next year I get to go to Iraq. I'll be promoted soon to full bird. I add all this for those who have been in the military, I know its not interesting to others, but its been a large part of my life. The comradery is the best part. Note: I never got to Kuwait, but I did make Colonel. I have two boys, one a senior in high school the other a freshman, both are tall, but my 14 year old, Erik, is 6'3". Erik is very social and a real daredevil, he recently broke his forth bone, this time his femur, by jumping off the poolslide and missing the pool. My wife, Chris and I spent four days at the Stanford Medical Center for that one. My oldest, Scott, is the shy, quiet type who makes excellent grades without trying. Scott is hoping to go to Stanford, but I'll settle for Cal Poly. Chris, isn't working now, but when she does she is a technical writer. She has worked for Cisco and Teridyne and is very good at it. She recently, helped one of our two schnauzers to give birth to four puppies. Luckily we finally found good homes for them. We like to travel. We really enjoy France and England. I personally really enjoy going to Disney World, but I think everyone else is tried of it. Chris and I have gotten back into rowing at a local lake and I recommend it to everyone. I would like to come to the 40th reunion, but the Army is sending me to Ft Polk Louisiana for most of September, so maybe I'll make the 45th. My best to all. Part Two Chris and I are coming to the 45th. I am ...Expand for more
still working for the California Department of Corrections, but will retire this December. I retired from the Army Reserve in 2013 after 20 years and have been somewhat lost without it. The Army has been a large part of my life for the last twenty years and has really kept me busy. We have already started to transition to retirement with the addition of a boat. It is a 45ft Carver Californian, built in 1989. This weekend we will move it to Ventura Harbor from Marina Del Rey as it is closer to our home in Paso Robles. Paso Robles is wine country, rivaling Napa. It is near Hurst Castle. My boys, Scott and Erik are attending the local community college and still trying to figure out what they want to do. Chris retired last year from a career of technical writing in the computer industry. Chris and I are really looking forward to traveling and doing our hobbies. I hope to see many of you next week at the 45th reunion. Part Three Well, we obviously didn't make it to the 45th as my wife's aunt (Sister Cornelia) died at 94. My wife was in the process of documenting her life as a midwife in Nigeria. It has since become a PodCast and you can hear it online for free. It's called Letters from Nigeria, it's great and so was Sister Cornelia. We moved to Cocoa Florid in 2016. We have a great place on the water with a dock and a fantastic view of Kennedy Space Center launches. We just missed Hurricane Mathew by a week. Being retired here is really great, although we are still spending a lot of time working on our new home (it was built in 1957). Our kids are doing well. Scott is in graduate school at the University of Iowa in Math and his younger brother is in community college in Phoenix studying to be a Computer Technician. No weddings yet. I'll try to add some more photos to my profile. I just want to say I have never really figured out all the features of this website, so if you left a message of some kind and I didn't get back its probably because I never figured out how to open it or how to reply. I also don't visit very often. Part Four: We are here in Seattle for the reunion staying at a VRBO in Magnolia. We drove from Florida with our schnauzer Pepper and have visited numerous relatives on the way. We really haven't been to Seattle much in the last 30 years so we are doing a lot of tourist stuff. We just went on an Alaska cruise, in May, with our boys and had an absolute blast. Scott, our oldest recently graduated from the U. of Iowa with degrees in Math and Actuarial Math and now he is looking for a job. He big goal is no more snow. Erik is still plugging away at computer science in Phoenix and he is a part-time Vegan Chef. He even has a U-tube show called Vegmetal. Still no weddings. It will be great to see everybody in September.
