Deaurel's Story
Life
After graduation I worked at saunders green house and flower shop. On 17 December 1963 I enlisted into the army and reported for duty on 3 Jan 1964 at Ft Dix NJ. After basic training was asigned to Ft Gordan. Their I went through signal school. After graduation was assigned their until I went to South Vietnam in Oct 1964. The communication site I was assigned to was called PHU LAM. Which was just out side of Saigon. All of us lived in hotels in down town Saigon and traveled by truck or bus to the site. Returned to the States in Oct 1965 and was assigned to Stratcom-conus in Suitland Md. until my discharge in Dec 66. I then returned home to Auburn and worked at varios jobs, until I decided that I did not like what I was doing and went back in the army in Sep 67. Upon inlisting I was sent to Karlsruhe Germany. Stationed with a moble communication unit. Was sent in Nov to Stuttgard for nco training for two months. Upon returning to my unit I rejusted a transfer back to Vietnam. Departed Germany on leave to visit my family in Auburn. I said my good buys to my parents and my sister and left for Nam for the second time. The finest this is that I left on my birthday. WAs asigned to the 54th Signal company in Na-Trans. For the next year that would be my home base. Went all over the country setting up communications sites. Also spent time with 5th special Forces on the Cambodian border. Returned to the states in April 1969. And again on my birthday. This time on my re...Expand for more
turn I was assigned to the Pentagon in Washington D.C. For the next three year I worked in and around the capital Area. During this time I also met my Wife Cecilia in march 1970 and we were married in October 1970. In 1972 we moved to frankfurt Germany. Their I was assigned to the 102nd Signal Bn. During that period my daughter dannielle was born. We returned to the states in the fall of 1976. Was assigned to the headquarters 7th Signal Command. worked in the communications center. During this time my second daugther Darline was born. In 1979 I had to leave my family their at Ft Ritchie Md. While I went to Korea for a year. On my return I was again assigned to Ft Ritchie with 7th Signal Command. In the fall of 1982 I again left my family in the states. Went to Stuttgart Germay for my last two years. Worked in the SSO and the command post until my retirement in 1984.
After my retirement we moved to Lewiston. Worked their doing different jobs. Then in 1986 desided we need to get out of their. So we moved to Maryland. Their I got a job working in communication for the Dept of the Treasure on fifteeth & Penn. in down town Washington. worked their until 1988. Then went to work at the DCS communications center at Andrews AFB.
Retired from their in 1999. In 2001 I moved out to California, to be near our daughters. We are still hear and love it. We live in the town of Apple Valley. We travel to Vages, and have seen most of the big shows. I like the Orlean's the best.
