Debbie's Story

I've been in Oregon since graduation. I came to meet an Aunt I had never met & just had to stay once I was here. My Aunt passed away in, Jan 1997, from heart failure. Only 3 days after I had returned from attending my father's funeral, in Dec of 1996. My father passed away from colon cancer shortly after only putting my mother to rest in Dec of 1994. My mother had been ill my entire childhood and began to have serious complications after a massive heat stroke in May 1993. This, only 1 month after our 10 year High School Class Reunion. At our 10 year reunion, I received 3 lovely awards. I had never received any awards or attention like that in High School. I was very suprised! In H.S., I had always felt I was "looking in", on what everyone else was doing and being. Nevertheless, these 3 awards were entitled, "Most Available Bachlorette", "Most Changed" and "Farthest Travelled". (I gave the reduced airline ticket to someone else to use, I had had a feeling I wouldn't make the next 5 year reunion.) Bringing tears to my eyes and my mom's, I shared my last visit and my last hug goodbye. I would have never left to return to Oregon had I known, my life was about to change, drastically. If only someone from that 10 year High School Class Reunion had asked me to move back home. I would have come home in a split second if someone had just asked me to. (You know how young people think, right?) Oregon is definately a place everyone should learn more about. It's just beautiful out here! A great place to vacation and I bet you didn't even know! Where I lived for my 24 years out here, I was only 1 hr from the mountains and 1 hr from the coastal beaches. There is plenty of snow this year, to ski or snowboard...to the moon! Directly where I live, Happy Valley Oregon, is what they call a banana-belt. This is to the South of the Columbia River Gourge. The Gourge, keeps most of any kind of fun weather to blow around up and over our area. Thus, we never get the snow however, we do get our share of the rain. ...Expand for more
There are plenty of things to do and places to visit in Oregon. We are currently having a shortage of salmon & there is great diligence about the poor seals out there who are still feeding on what Salmon are left. This is only natural to the seals but to some of the people, seals are eating on too many of the Salmon. Thus, causing the salmon to become, an endangered species. This is taking place up the Columbia River at the Bonneville Dam. My most favorate place is, The Multnomah Falls. What a drop! Waterfalls you can walk to the tip top and then, look down....the spray of the falls is bitter cold but once at the top, the breathtaking view catches your breath and you forget how far you had just walked/crawled, to get there. Yes, it rains A LOT in Oregon however, it enriches the air so much it's worth is priceless. Most flowers stay year round and ALL is very, very green. I've also, seen some of the largest, tallest and most beautiful trees out here. (Trees in Missouri and Kansas look like sickly twigs.) The trees they cut down are replaced by volunteer school children & numerous volunteers adults, year round. Some of the younger "Inmates", are given an opportunity to make up for some of their wrongs they wish to right. Punishment is assigned and "do wrongers" do volunteer work, by picking up garbage off the side of highways. They call it, "Gods Land". Need I say more? It's a wonderful State to raise a family. (No sales tax and no pumping gasoline yourself either.) Nevertheless, I'm coming home after making this my home for the past 24 years . I'll be moving myself and my 16 year old daughter, down to the midwest of Kansas, this summer of 2008. Why give up so much you ask? Family and Friends I miss so very, very much! Write me soon or when you can. I'm not so quick to retrieve all my e-mails quickly however, I'll try to do better. I'm easy to get along with and REMEMBER, I'm the "Most Changed Bachlorette", of Ruskin High School Class of 1983! Ha, ha, ha, ha.... :) Deb
