More about Debbie:"I am just a daughter of a Veteran who discovered something & I have spent the past 5+ years doing everything in my power to bring the VA Aid & Attendance pension benefit to national attention through my website & supporting forums.
I donât really have a "Bio". What I have is a story.
No degrees other than the one I have earned living 60 years. Still enrolled in that course with ongoing education and studies.
My mom passed away 5 years ago this coming Aug 25th.
I have made 100's of media contacts to every major outlet hoping someone would see the value of doing a segment on this pension with little to no headway on a national level, and so I have carried on because it is the right thing to do. In my heart I truly know that this mission is something I was destined to do. Circumstances are just too much to be deemed coincidental.
I have educated myself in the dealings and short comings of the VA and have built a network of resources tha...Expand for more
t allows me the ability to do what I do.
When I launched the site, I had no way of knowing that it would turn into what it has. It has taken on a life of its own and taken over mine. I pay all the operating expenses out of my own pocket.
The majority of my day is consumed with responding to emails and acting as moderator on the forums. I continue to look for media opportunities and send out correspondence with the hope someone will see the story of a lifetime to change the lives of millions.
I am just a daughter who discovered something and fought to my mom's last breath to get the VA to release her funds.
Just a daughter who stood in the gardens of Hospice House of Tallahassee and made a promise that my mother did not wait in vain.
Just a daughter who saw a disgraceful failure to honor and to remain silent knowing what I do was not an option for consideration. I have been that daughter who had run out of hope, money, resources and had no where to turn to pay for care. I'm that daughter who discovered that over a 9-year period my parents were entitled to $160.000 to help pay for their care and would have offered them more than they had.
Iâm the daughter who knows she makes a difference for thousands of people just by sharing information, and I am humbled by that knowledge. It gives me a way to pay it forward to another son or daughter who is only just beginning this journey, and by doing so it allows me to rewrite the ending of my motherâs life.
I'm the daughter the VA wishes they never encountered.
My ultimate goal is to make this pension as common knowledge as SS, Medicare, etc. Maybe once I accomplish that, I will feel like a bio would be more appropriate than just a story, but at the moment, I feel it is a story worth telling.".
