Debbie's Story
Life
"4000 characters remaining" - hmmmm.....hardly seems like enough space to recap 35 years of living and learning. Can it really be 35 years? How does that happen? I don't FEEL any older. Ok - well maybe a bit older. I don't think I could do the chinese splits anymore, but all in all, still active and enjoying life every day.
Took the looong way to that part of my life's journey. Certainly not a non-stop flight, if you know what I mean. But I guess that's what life is, a journey of learning, about yourself and others, and discovering that the real you IS in there, if you allow it to come out.
So at the age of 53, I got married again, this time to the guy who is the love of my life, and that life finds me in Indianapolis, Indiana. I moved from Bloomington, Indiana 8 years ago, which is where I called home since the age of 19 and where I raised my son Mychal, who is now 32. I'm now much closer to my job as a Project Engineer for an Electrical contractor at Eli Lilly & Co. Don't get excited, I'm not an engineer in the EE sense, more like a cat herder/bean counter if truth be told.
I made an offer on my current home in Indy a day after Eric and I had our first date. Had I known then that that date was with my future husband, I might not have made the offer and moved, however, all things work together for good, and Eric eventually also moved from Bloominton to Indy after 2 years of "commuter" dating. We got married in Nassau, Bahamas in February 2006. My brother Doug and his wife Kim came down with us to be in our wedding party. Doug also lives in Indy and owns a sign shop here. My folks and my sister live in Arkansas.
I haven't finished a college degree from an offical learning institute, YET. The school of life, however, has provided me with a tremendous education and I am still taking classes every year. In bo...Expand for more
th institutions. lol! Maybe I'll be the new Guiness World Record holder: the oldest person to graduate from college at the age of 96! How long do college credits last anyhow?
After I left Wisconsin, I went into consumer finance and then real estate sales which I did for 18 years. That involved working for a traditional sales firm, a Savings and Loan heading up their REO, being a mortgage loan officer, then going to work for a commercial and residential developer. I moved to the non-profit sector where I worked for 10 years (1 in OKL)before I made my move back to my current job. All those classes with Mr Weidermeier sure came in handy. I remember Barb Durante and I being the rebels, breaking new territory by being the first girls to take his Drafting 101 class. Always loved construction and aside from the stint with the non-profit, I've been involved in that line of work to one degree or another ever since. I hope to develop my own subdivion someday.
My grandsons, Izaiah and Henry are 9 and 7 respectively, and are a source of the light in my life. As I mentioned, Mychal is 32 and married and is an asst teacher and football coach in Bloomington/Ellettsville. My daughter (in-law) Sarah is branch manager for AAA.
Eric and I met on-line. Yes - it happens! I don't think either of us was really expecting the outcome we had; but as his Grandma says, you never can tell. He is a Navy vet and lived in California for 8 years. Moved back to Indiana when he got divorced. He has a BS from IUPUI and is working full time in IT.
We have been to England, Mexico, California, Michigan and Bahamas on recent vacations. We love to travel and I would spend all my time at a beach if I could, and as you can see I still don't know how to shut up!
