Debbie's Story
For those of you who were wondering: I left school and married into a prominent Arabian/American family in Riverside; moved to Monterey, California and had a beautiful son. The marriage didnt last. I gave marriage a second try and moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon. That didnt work out either. I returned to Rialto, met and had a 10 year common-law type relationship with Darrell Quick. We settled in North San Bernardino; renting two different homes from Joe Newman's dad. (Anybody remember Joe?) After Darrell and I split up; I moved to Redlands to take care of my Dad, who later died of heart failure. I have been living alone now for years...
After being hit by a car on my motorcycle in June of 2000; I thought my life was over. My left leg was crushed into fragments and my left arm was torn from its socket...I was confined to a wheelchair while undergoing many surgeries to repair the damage. I struggled through a year of excruciating rehabilitation---going from a whe...Expand for more
elchair, to a walker and then to a cane. Finally, after 6 more months of rehab, I could walk without assistance. I achieved full recovery and gained a great deal of respect for the disabled!
As part of the rehab process, I was able to go to a vocational school and learn a new trade. I chose Medical Assisting because it was the most interesting of the choices that were available. I graduated and did my externship at Loma Linda Faculty Medical Offices in Internal Medicine. Unfortunately, I quickly became bored and longed for something a little more exciting. I worked in Outpatient Surgery for 5 months before accepting an offer at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Dispatch Services as a Medical Courier. A year and a half later, I was offered a higher paying position in the Clinical Laboratory; working in Pre-Analytical Maintenance. I continued my Laboratory education and earned a second certification as a Phlebotomy Technician in 2010.
