Debbie's Story

I will be singing the US and Turkish national anthems at our consulates and embassy in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir for 4th of July festivities with Broadway thrown in later in the day. This Okie has gone where no other has ventured. Sharing OK hospitality far from home. Love you always, Debbie G. =========================================================================================================== MISS OK PAGEANT CELEBRATES 40TH ANNIVERSARY UNDER KIWANIS SPONSORSHIP Finally decided to share the truth on my anniversary... This person was a high school classmate/competitor, OCU classmate and from my own sorority and walks among you all today. I will not out her and her family as they must live with this sin and God will judge. The pageant lawyers said it was the worst two years of their lives dealing with these insane people! Love a relieved Debbie G. FACEBOOK POST- This is Debbie Giannopoulos Mustafoglu/Demetra George born in Ft. Sill, OK writing to send you good wishes for your weekend. THIS is MY 40th Anniversary being crowned the first Miss Oklahoma that Kiwanis sponsored. I AM NOT WITH YOU NOR HAVE I EVER RETURNED TO TULSA FOR A REUNION. Tho I have a heart-breaking story that has been hidden for 40 years, I want to say thank you to Jane Jayroe and Beverly Hoster for guiding me to the pageant as it was a gift that changed my life, taught me life's lessons and showed me my own strength that prepared me for my future. God sends us where we need to be and only now do I see now how HIS plan worked. We are overseas right now by choice where I am performing with symphonies and giving concerts, singing the US and other national anthems for my country and spreading Oklahoma hospitality. I want to wish you all a wonderful event and hope you will share your knowledge, guidance and love with the new contestants. Tell the girls it's nice to win, but it's better to be nice. As Stephen Schwartz wrote in WICKED, ..."because I knew you, because I knew, I HAVE BEEN CHANGED FOR GOOD". Love, just plain old Debbie G. part II "The lawsuit against the Miss Oklahoma pageant, Miss Warr Acres and me, fills my scrapbook. My funny name, tho' I looked like everyone else, brought accusations of being part of a Greek mafia that purchased all my roles and titles, and a disqualification prior to attending the national pageant. There were even queries if I believed in God though I attended church weekly. Kay Welch, Miss OK pageant director, now knows the details and confirmed them with the pageant...Expand for more
lawyers. I am reassured by her that this could never happen again. Jealousy is truly a green eyed monster and the saying "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" speaks mountains. Young girls aren't meant to handle these things. WE should not be like the TEXAS CHEERLEADER MURDER PLOT. Can you imagine how I felt in AC when my resume was wiped completely blank, my room burgled and my clothes stolen? Someone really had it in for me. A two year statue of limitation investigating all the allegations ran out, but, alas, it was too late and my life was then in ruins and I was thrown under the bus. No apology. No second chance. I send a huge thank you to dear Pam Jacobs Cook , a Miss OK chaperone, for finding my official portrait in the flea market near her home, which I never received for 37 years till '09, which she purchased and sent to me. It will hang tattered as she found it as a reminder of this lesson in my life. As we all did, I just wanted to represent my state with honor and had already won the National Talent Award from Miss Teenage America but THIS chance was taken from me by vindictive competitors and worse, executed in secret just prior to Atlantic City. I wasn't allowed to have any contact with my family either. I felt lost. My hair fell out as a result of the stress and engagements were far and few between--- then, I was finally proven INNOCENT, so............please; we are all taught not to judge a book by its cover, its name, its color. We must live by this. I have honored my Lord by continuing to represent my state abroad as a singing diplomat, and garnering roles and contests that were solid and untainted. I am at the peak of my career and perform and teach my students not only an art, but about honor and truth. I have laid to rest my ugly dark secret that made me feel that I failed my state all those years ago. I want this tale finally exposed so it CAN NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN and we FORMERS must be the guardians of not only the past, but also the future. I have remained silent all these years so no one would cry "bad loser" but as you see I am not a loser and never was. My resume and performance schedule tell the story and you can't purchase that. This bump in the road added to my need to strive and survive. I hope no one else ever has to live through this again. Happy 40th Anniversary Miss Oklahoma, Formers and me on this milestone day. Love Debbie G. So here is where I've been which was ugly but I am still the same old me on the road as a goodwill ambassador.
