Debbie's Story

After graduation, I went to college for one semester, then quit to get married to a guy I didn't marry. Then Jim Smith introduced me to Johnny Keeling and we got married, had a beautiful daughter and divorced three years later. I worked in hospitals as a nurses' aide and for doctors as a medical and surgical assistant, monitoring tech for open heart surgery. In between all this were two more marriages that didn't work. I moved to Austin and worked as a Dialysis Technician for two years. One night I received a call and visit from Bryan Buckley, who had fallen in love with me in high school, asked me to marry him but I said "No" cause I was going to college and wasn't in love with him. Well, long story short, he asked me if I would marry him again and this time I said "Yes, if he was divorced". We got married right after he finished Officer's Candidate School in the Air Force(he'd been in it for 14 yrs already). We've been married 33 years this year, so I guess he's a keeper. He got stationed first in Panama City, Fl. and then down her...Expand for more
e to Satellite Beach, Fl. where he retired after 22 yrs in the Air Force. We decided to stay here and I worked here before and after his retirement for an ambulance squad as a EMT/Paramedic for 15 yrs but had to finally go out on permanent Disability because of my back - those years of lifting those stretchers with patients on them and dragging them out of rooms and carrying them took it's toll. I was 49, almost 50 when I went out. Bryan and I had a wonderful son 10 yrs younger than his sister. They're both happily married and my daughter and son-in-law have 5 yr old twins ( boy & girl), so I love being a grandma as I'm sure we all do. My son & daughter-in-law say only 4 legged grandkids, which is fine by me. My daughter is a fantastic mom and all around super person. I'm so proud of her. She sure didn't have much of a mom as a role model. My son is so smart and is a fantastic person, his intelligence never ceases to amaze me. I really have two wonderful kids and am so very proud to be their mother. Bryan and I are so very blessed.
