Debbie's Story
Hi Everyone,
I'm afraid I won't be attending the reunion this year, as I have another very important committment. As some of you may know, I lost my daughter, Laurie 3 1/2 years ago to a choking accident. Laurie had Down Syndrome and my life revolved around her. She was my life. We did, however, donate her organs ( heart, kidneys, liver, and pancreas). By doing so, she is not just gone. She lives on in 5 others. Every two years the National Kidney Foundation hosts the Transplant Games in a different city. The games are like the olympics for organ recipents. Two years ago, we went to Louisville, Kentucky. This year the games are in Pittsburgh and are taking place July 11-16. The games draw approximately 7,000 people - donor families, recipients (athletes), living donors and spectators....Expand for more
So, that's where my husband and I will be. It's our way of honoring Laurie's memory and it's wonderful to see the effects of organ donation in the athletes.
To catch you up on my life in other areas, I am a legal secretary in Wellsville. My husband (Brad) is a professor at Alfred State. We have 7 grandchildren. My son, Jason has two boys and my stepdaughter, Mandy has 5 girls. I'm also on the balloon rally committee and on the Board of Directors at Allegany ARC. Keeping busy gets me through each day without my Laurie. I will miss seeing many of you at the reunion, but will be thinking of you while I'm in Pittsburgh. Hope to see you at the next one! Have a great time!
