Debbie's Story

Actually, I did not graduate from Mountain Home High School. I attended school in Mountain Home from 6th grade until 10th grade. Some of you may not remember me until you get out the year books and look up my picture. I left in 10th grade and moved to Wichita Kansas where I finished out my 10th grade year at Northwest High School and then we moved outside of Wichita about 20 miles and I had to change schools again. I ended up graduating from Remington High in Whitewater Kansas. My best friends at Mountain Home were Susan Nazi (Marfas) and Rhonda Ross (Taylor) and I still keep in contact with them to this day and I am very grateful for their friendship over the years. I've always felt the closest connection to Mountain Home and that time and place in my life. I still remember the day my family was pulling out of the driveway in Mountain Home to leave for good and a car pulled up with some of my friends in it and they all jumped out and presented me with a yellow silk rose (which I still have to this day). I held onto that rose all the way to Kansas with tears in my eyes. I've never told anyone that before. At the age of 21, I married a guy 4 years my senior, named Randy Brenner. He wanted to become a Naval Fighter Pilot, but he tested slightly color blind, so he ended up becoming a Flight Test Engineer for the Navy instead. He figured if he could not fly the FA-18...he could still be near his love of fighter jets. So, before we were married, he got a job at the Naval Weapons Center, China Lake, California. It is now called the Naval Air Warfare Center, Weapons Division at China Lake. We moved his things to California and 6 months later he came back to Kansas and we were married in June 1985. I moved to California with him and got a job in civil service where I worked on various missile development programs for the Navy. We lived and worked there at China Lake as DINK's (Double Income...No Kids) for 13 years. We waited 10 years into our marriage to think about having a kid, then along came Christian Sha...Expand for more
ne in February 1996. His is now 13 and a great kid. He is in 8th grade at Northwest Christian School in Phoenix, Arizona where we have lived since 1998. Christian plays running back for his jr. high football team and is a black belt in TaeKwon-Do as well. I can't brag on him enough...he has all the talent I never had, his Dad's wit and sense of humor and the ability to act out scenes from movies (playing all the parts) like nobody I know. I call it the "Dana Carvey Phenomenon" It's a game we play in the car. I tell him to say a line from a movie and he will repeat the whole scene, playing all the parts, with the same voice inflection and pitch of the original actors voices (ALL OF THEM). He sounds just like 'um. I laugh and laugh. He takes acting classes at John Robert Powers in Scottsdale, Arizona. We moved to Arizona in 1998, when the military was downsizing back when Clinton was in office. We did not have to leave, but my husband Randy, did not want to raise our son in such an isolated environment as China Lake...it is the Mojave Desert after all. So, we moved to another desert...after arriving in Phoenix, I went back to school at Arizona State University and graduated in 2005 with a BS degree in cell biology/physiology. I have my own practice in alternative medicine, called Quantum Health Consulting, LLC, helping people with chronic health issues using Applied Kinesiology and nutritional methodologies (Nutrigenomics) and the technology of the Interactive Query System (i2inetwork.com). I am also a surgical technologist. My husband worked as a systems engineer at Honeywell on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner program. He missed the Mach speed of naval research, development and test though. So, as of July 6th 2009, Randy has taken a job back in China Lake, California with the Department of Defense, U.S. Navy working on the F18 Super Hornet EO/IR Program. Christian and I are still in Peoria, Arizona. Plans are to keep home base here. I would be very glad to hear from anybody out there who remembers me. God Bless You.
