Debbie's Story
Hi all,
Since high school, I attended UW-River Falls and then I joined the US Air Force and the California and Minnesota Air National Guard. I met and married my husband while we were both stationed in Georgia. We are coming up on 33 years of marriage. We have 2 children, a daughter and a son. Our son, Kevin, just got out of the Marines having served a tour of duty in Iraq. Kevin was married in April,2009 to a wonderful young lady. Our daughter Katie and her husband, Jared, have given us two beautiful grandchildren, Kylie is 7 and Shawn is 2 yearss old. We are very lucky because both of our children have bought homes within 5 miles of our home. I am an elementary special education teacher and my husband works as a programmer. We have been blessed. , my dad passed away and 3 hours later my husband had a heart attack brought on by a septic infection. If it wasn't for my neighbor and best friend, Pam, who called my home, to talk to Bryan about a suprise party they were planning for me, Bryan would not have survived. As it was, they gave him a less than 20% chance but after almost 3 weeks in intensive care and another 2 weeks in physical rehab, he was able to come home and he has had very little residual effects of his ordeal. My sister Theresa and her husband Pat, who has become Bryan's best friend, was by my side the entire time and were such a support, as were so many of our friends and neighbors. This is another reason I say we are truly blessed. I am now attending grad school to get my Certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders.
