Debbie 's Story
Life
Most of my classmates didn't REALLY know me ~ and that was really sad; but being a transfer student to DP beginning my freshman year didn't do much for having a chance to network into a click of friends.
Some may remember me walking through the halls toward class(es) holding my books across my chest and being quiet. DUH, huh?? Well, I'm NOT that quiet person I was in high school! Others may remember me as one of the first "COWGIRLS" to ever grace the hallways in boots and blue jeans every day. Now THAT was a major fashion faux pas in Deer Park back then! But all of that's water under the bridge, and life goes on; and did!
While I could retire from Harris County after more than 25 years of service, I figure I can give them a few more good years, so why not? I'm not ready to take a 'round the world cruise, so I might as well stay in town. I am an avid lover of karaoke, and spent a couple of years "crooning tunes and duets" with Keith Gilley when he was at the Canary Club in northeast Houston. It was a blast and I miss the comaraderie that we all share...Expand for more
d there with my son and mother as willing participants, too.
After spending several years serving on my local civic association, I just got "promoted" to serve as President, so that now has become my focus: to help my local community keep their home values up by trying to keep the neighborhood clean. It's a challenge that not many would undertake; but I'm always up for a challenge - "defeat" has never been in my vocabulary!
For a more in-depth glimpse of who I really am, I can also be found on facebook dare ya to check it out!
~UPDATE: 2019 - However, things change and we move forward... I'm now closing in on my 35th year at Harris County. I lost my mother 5 years ago, and now I search for a new norm. I'm thankful to still be healthy, so I haven't made the retirement transition yet. I did move to Dayton 4 years ago and am once again, the transplant in a new location, lol. And, just recently a local sports grill/bar began hosting an early karaoke night one night a week; so maybe it's time to knock the rust off of the vocals and begin mingling again ;).
Cheers!
