Debby's Story

Life My daughter was married in January. Well a lot has happened since I first put up this profile. I wanted to attend the reunion but in August just prior I had startling news. My Doctor sent me for some tests and they diagnosed me with some tumors. Just about the time of the reunion I had an MRI and they found that I had what is called Cervical Stenosis which accounted for why I was losing my ability to walk and use my arms. In October I had a bone transplant and am now awaiting the removal of those tumors. I know not all my classmates have a belief in God. We can call whatever gets us through difficult moments anything. That day because they thought I'd never walk again even the doctors were crying. My daughter learned a lesson in heart, soul and courage which is the legacy we all have to give to one another. She saw her family pull together. I never told her until recently why the doctors needed to be calmed down. Inside each of us is strength we never realized we had until it mattered most. Fortunately, it wasn't necessary that day and hopefully it won't be needed on the next go around. I'm thankful for my breath each day to God, and for my Parents. To my friends and especially for Lolly, Debbie, Dorothy, Carol and Ted whom I've reconnected with lately. It's so great and I hope to keep meeting with more of you so send me emails. It will go to junkmail first but put your name in the caption and I'll check it to our roster from school just to be sure you aren't an advertiser. Take care... Sharifah (formerly Debby) The little bee that grew up to be a noble woman) School The teacher who inspired me the most was Les Harrison. He had a flare for the dramatics, was truely impassioned by the subject he taught and definitely inspired me to continue to pursue education throughout my life. One funny memory I have is when we were in biology class and someone brought in a plaster casting of dog poop and our instructor thought it was real and kicked it across the room. We were on a trip to Yakima on the bus and one student named Randy used a bra to simulate the oxygen masks that pop out of airplanes in case of an emergenc...Expand for more
y from a girls suit case. Made us all crack up laughing as he gave us all the emergency procedures for evacuation. That same trip we toilet papered a tree in "bone man's" yard after our concert. It was definitely a group effort since we were not the first to arrive on the scene. I'd like to say that I was deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Northrup's passing although it's now been many years and of course of Mr. Doucettes passing. They were really kind people and gave us some great experiences. I remember the time I packed a wicker picnic basket with a spaghetti dinner for a key club auction and it went for the highest amount. Unfortunately, although it looked really great on the outside, the spaghetti was stone cold and the mushrooms in the salad had sand in them. It was an all and all very bad dinner for the 30 something guy that ended up paying $50 for the dinner. lol one I'm sure he wanted to forget he purchased. I was so happy when Lolly Haggars was our homecoming queen senior year. She was so sweet and kind. It was a great to have known her back then and I sure hope she's doing well today. There was the time the kids put the car (don't know if it was a Morris Minor) on top of the Kiosk) in the commons area. Powder Puff Football was fun. My spirit gave me a football cake and I took it to Faye Wolfson's, tripped and put my knee right in the middle of it. What a mess. Everyone laughed for hours. I worked with Alan Wolfson at Wells Fargo Bank and he never let up on me about Lolly Haggars and wanting to meet up with her. Sorry Alan, she DID get married last time I checked. The happiest and saddest day was graduation. It was happy because I had finally gotten through the entire process and felt it was a fairly successful process. I made some friends along the way, although we've grown apart, had some good laughs and happy times, but I never looked back and always looked forward. Dotty, if you are out there, get in touch. I know you got your degree in engineering from UW and haven't heard from you since. I still remember you dangerously bouncing around on the trampoline in gym. You're probably the most athletic of us all today!
