Debby's Story

2008 updates: Hi all, It's been a long time since I was in Ellwood City. I did get back for a quick visit about 20 years ago but that's it. My parents moved to Florida a few years after we graduated so there wasn't strong motivation to return. I graduated from PITT in 1965 and then went on to the U. of Chicago...first to work and later to get a masters degree. I have been working at universities ever since. I met my husband at U. of C and we spend a few years at Cornell U. in New York before heading to U. of Missouri-Columbia for his first faculty job. 17 years later we moved to Purdue U. in West Lafayette, IN and have lived here since. I manage a university core research lab and teach so interact with grad students a lot. It keeps me young...or at least helps...and is always fun and interesting working with students from all over the world. Spare time is spent traveling whenever possible, out with our dogs (Alaskan malamutes for the past 40 years), and working on or attending various community events along with routine gardening, shopping, etc. We have two boys, Dan who lives with his wife Katy and 3 children near San Francisco. d school where both earned PhDs. Our other son, Jeff, lives in Portland Maine with his wife Emily. He is a violin maker and has made violins, violas, and cellos. Yep, you can see why we have to travel a lot just to see our kids! I would love to hear from some of you. 2013 updates: I formally retired from Purdue in 2012 but then started a small company to keep myself busy. I do high end imaging (electron microscopes) and training for commercial customers. It is just enough to keep up my skills but also to leave time for other things. I finally am able to get more involved with community groups and that has been lots of fun. Hunt me up through DSimagingLLC.com Kids are fine. Our #2 son moved on from instrument maker to tooling and manufacturing engineer for a company making turbines and other parts for jet engines out of the newest types of carbon fiber composites. You will be able to fly on Boeing planes with those engines starting in 2014. We are still traveling a lot...one of the benefits of the academic are numerous travel opportunities. Hope to continue doing that and actually increase whenever my husband decides to retire or at least slow down.
