Debi's Story
I stayed in Porterville until 1983 while taking a few courses at PC and doing absolutely nothing with the rest of my life. I decided to find myself by moving to San Diego. I found myself married and pregnant only 6 months after living in San Diego. I had my daughter in 1986 and realized I still had a lot of growing up to do by the time I was divorced in 1990 at age 30. I had a difficult time finding myself anywhere in California while living in Sacramento and Lake Tahoe from 1994 to 1997. I then moved back to Porterville in 1997 and became sober and free from all mind altering substances. Including relationships. My focus was on my studies and my daughter. In 1999 I received my Human Services Certificate and began working as a Substance Abuse Counselor with Turning Point for a few years, and then at Corcoran State Prison for a program called Phoenix House. lled Plentyoffish. We were married in June of 2008. I had also became a grandmother in January of 2008. She is now 3 years old and my best BFF. I returned to work in January of 2009 teaching DUI classes here in Porterville. I graduated from Chapman University with my BA in OL. I entered into Grad school in January of 2010 to major in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage Family Therapy. I will be working as an MFT by the end of this year while obtaining my hours to become licensed. We just sold our home last month in February, 2011 and I have been unemployed for about 3 weeks. I love it. Five days and almost 3,000 miles later we landed in Florida the first week of March 2011. I have been in town for a week and will flying back to Florida in a few days. I will be living in Florida and Cali both off and on for the remainder of this year until I finish Grad school in October of 2011. One day soon I will be helping others find themselves too in their marriage or in their divorce while still continuing to find myself.
