Deborah's Story

Life Well, this bio thing seems a bit like bragging, but I'll try it out. OK,, I moved to Colorado in 1977. Back then the Denver area was a pretty nice place, not too crowded, and had a small city feel to it. Too bad it's grown so much! I live west of Denver in Lakewood. We live in a wonderful area that has big lots, older houses and an unusual mixture of people. I'm married to my second husband (was divorced from the 1st one in 1983 and remarried in 1988). My daughter, Amanda, lives with her hubby in Montana ( Bozeman area). My son, Ryan, and his wife and little boy & new baby girl live in St. Louis, Missouri. My parents have both passed away in the last 5 years so I don't get down to Texas very often. My brother and his family live in the Sugar Land area and we visit every few years. I'm a political consultant. That just means I work for various candidates, doing all kinds of things= managing their campaigns, coordinating field work, running statistical numbers, creating campaign brochures,, etc, etc. It can be a lot of fun, and it can be a lot of hard work, but it's cyclical. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I'd end up doing this!! Being a Democrat in the Rocky Mountain west has been challenging, but slowly but surely we've turned our state from red to purple to blue and I'm glad to have been a part of that. Lets see,, what else? I love to read- several books at once. I love to work in our yard, cook and even do some canning o...Expand for more
f stuff from the garden. I quilt (in the winter), camp and fly fish in the summer. I spend a lot of time working with local government and my neighborhood, volunteering for all sorts of things. I'm a founder of my local historical district, (our home is on the register as a Sears kit house). I recently started Tai Chi, and am a fan of the holistic way of looking at living. Of course, I still like good cheeseburger and fries evry so often and good beer and wine! I keep busy! Life is good! Turning 50 was no big deal (30 was, by far, worse!!) It's kind of fun,, having the kids grown and doing well. We just enjoy our friends and neighbors, our pug Bubba, and , of course, work! I'm blessed to have been able to keep in touch with a few friends from Galveston, and I treasure those friendships like nothing else in my life! My friendship mantra would be something like " When you think of someone from your past, reach out and try to connect. You never know what's around the next bend in the road." An update July 2009: After spending a couple of weeks on the Island the past 2 summers with friends from the old days (and new friends of old friends), and landing feet on the ground 3 weeks after Ike roared in (sleeping on friends couches while digging out & washing down, and seeing WAY too much loss) it seemed time to go back home. I've been looking for a place to buy, and hope to have a recent bid accepted. It will be good to own a place on the Island!
